Acne / Pimples Treatment - Procedure, Cost And Side Effects

What is the treatment?

Acne and pimples are caused by hair follicles in the skin that either gets blocked or plugged. Your dead skin cells, excess oil and dust can all clog your pores and can create these types of skin abrasions or boils called as pimples or acne. Thanks to the time we live in, our skin is getting more prone to outside interferences like dirt and pollution and as a result pimples and acne are getting common by the day. It especially occurs if you have an oily skin type and is mostly high when you are entering your adolescent age. This doesn’t mean that acne and pimples can affect only youngsters. It can affect people from all walks of life. Hence the basic treatment plan depends on your individual skin type and the severity of the pimples. If you have mild symptoms such as white heads and black heads, then treating them should be easy. Over the counter, skin care products can be beneficial to you. However, if your condition is severe, then you will have to consult a dermatologist for getting rid of the acnes. These treatments can include facial masks to medications and in some severe cases even laser treatments. Your dermatologist can guide you on this.

How is the treatment done?

Most of the acne treatment depends on certain life style changes. Some of them can include washing your face regularly, avoiding skin scrubs and keeping a clean environment. The actual treatment can include topical medications like lotion and gels for your skin to keep the conditions under check. Most of them are over the counter medications and can be used as per your skin types. Prescription medications are needed in some cases where the problem doesn’t go away and is in need of stronger doses of drugs. These can be of the antibiotic varieties and can be taken as pills and tablets. If the condition is severe then you might have to go in for standardized treatment plans. These can include drainage of the puss, where the dermatologist will manually remove the cysts that have formed. Once it is removed an injection might be given to prevent the spread of skin scarring. Laser therapy is also one of the options available where the doctors would treat the acnes and pimples using laser therapies. They also drastically reduce the growth of bacteria in your skin and can prevent them further damage. There are also many chemical peel treatments that can be performed to reduce the occurrence of pimples. These depend on your skin types and your dermatologist can determine as to how frequently you need this treatment.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

Almost anyone who is suffering from pimples and acne can undergo the treatment. You have to consult with your dermatologist to know your skin type and the type of treatment to undergo. Even pregnant women can undergo the treatment, but there are special drugs available especially for them. Most of the treatment can be done at the dermatologist’s office and be done in sessions depending on your skin conditions.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

Everyone is an eligible candidate for acne treatment. Pregnant women can avoid them but there are special medications available even to treat them. Most of the medications will involve antibiotics and hence if you are a safe candidate for using antibiotic medications, then you are eligible for the treatment.

Are there any side effects?

The side effects depend on the type of treatments being performed on your skin. Skin dryness and irritation can occur immediately after the laser treatments, but they generally heal by themselves. The antibiotics can sometimes upset your stomach or you can have symptoms of nausea. Pregnant women should be especially careful when taking the drugs and medications as some of the drugs can harm the fetus. Talk to your doctor about it.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

If you have undergone a laser treatment for removing acne, do follow the instructions laid down by the doctor. Avoid stepping out in the sun for some time and do not apply soap to the treated area. You would be able to perform all your normal activities immediately. You can start using the medications recommended post the recovery period to avoid further complications.

How long does it take to recover?

Recovery is very minimal and does not take much time. In the case of chemical peels, the entire process gets over in an hour or two or they segregated between sessions. You can get back to your normal activities soon after the treatments have been done.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

Laser treatments for your skin can cost anywhere between 10,000 INR to 15,000 INR in India. Skin based products and gel can cost starting from 100 INR and is available over the counters. Chemical based peels and masks can be done at your dermatologist’s office and can cost between 3,000 INR and above. It depends on the type of the wellness clinic you are undergoing the treatment.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

This once again depends on the type of skin you have. For some individuals, the results are more permanent while for others they have come for multiple sessions to get their skin treated. Laser treatment can be a more permanent solution but they generally take care of that particular spot and there is no guarantee that the acnes can occur in a different spot again. Chemical peels can show immediate results but they can gradually fade over time. It depends on how well you take care of your skin.

What are the alternatives to the treatment?

The alternative treatments can include the usage of tea tree oil and products that are made from organic nature like aloe Vera, argan oil etc. Zinc supplements can also be used regularly to combat the acne problems. Before you undergo the alternative treatments do consult with your doctor. It is better to know your skin type and your allergic levels before opting for such treatments.

How To Deal With The Problem Of Acute Acne?

The skin produces a natural oil known as sebum from the sebaceous glands. This acts as a protective layer and is passed out through the multiple, minute pores. With the teenage years seeing excessive hormones, excessive sebum is produced which clogs the pores, and the underlying sebum may not be released from the glands. In some cases, there could also be bacteria trapped in these acne. In severe cases, there can be extreme pain and pus formation. The acne can be quite large in size and may leave marks, which often take a long time to disappear.

Causes

Though acne affects any age group, it is most common in the teenage years and is attributed to the hormones called androgens. In women, there is also a hormonal correlation where acne is more common with menstrual cycles, pregnancy and polycystic ovaries – all conditions associated with increased hormone levels.

Management

Before heading out for medical help, the following are some tips to manage acne.

  1. Avoid touching it or picking it. Else it will result in a faster spreading of the infection to the surrounding areas.

  2. Use ice cubes on the acne as they help reduce redness and swelling by lowering the blood supply.

  3. Learn to keep calm as stress increases hormonal release and thereby acne.

  4. Do regular exercises. A good workout routine helps by keeping your skin clean and the pores open. There is a more frequent clearing of sebum leading to reduced acne.

  5. Maintain a healthy eating pattern. Avoid oily food items, which only add to the oiliness of the skin. Sugars again are proven to be harmful for acne.

  6. Follow a proper sleep routine as it will relax your muscles and keep you calm.

  7. Use mild detergents for washing pillow covers and towels, which are often used on the skin.

  8. Frequent washing, regular moisturizing, and exfoliating should be a part of your skin care routine. Avoid heavy chemicals and adhere to one regimen with as many natural substances as possible.

Medical Management

Medications would be required in more severe cases, where there is infection along with pain.

Topical products would include creams, gels or lotions with retinoids like tretinoin, tazarotene and adapalene. In some cases, topical antibiotics like clindamycin or erythromycin combined with benzoyl peroxide are used. Light therapy, laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, chemical peels and steroid injections can be used to remove acne scars, which may be very concerning cosmetically.

Very severe cases may require a systemic antibiotic course with doxycycline and minocycline. Birth control pills may be used in some to regulate hormonal levels.

Despite all this, let nature take its own course, and in majority of the cases, acne runs its course and settles down with the passage of teenage years. Try the next level therapy only if absolutely required. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

Medical Management

Depending on the cause of acne and its severity, we prescribe topical creams or acne control face washes and give oral antibiotics or tablets which decrease sebaceous gland activity. The doctor may call you for sessions where chemical peels are done once in 3 weeks to 4 weeks. Chemical peel for acne control contains mild, plant extracts which are painless. In hormonal acne, thorough investigation to evaluate the cause is done and hormonal therapy is started.

Preventing scar formation is the main aim as severe scarring due to acne causes distress and psychosocial problems and hence meeting a dermatologist and getting treated for acne promptly helps the patients to have a flawless glowing skin.

For people with severe acne oral retinoids helps control sebum production and pimples. You may need actibiotics to control active acne like oral doxycycline and local clindamycin creams. Once the acne is under control then you can start treatment for pimple marks which may be pigmentation or scars. There are various treatments for acne scars which include creams, chemical peels, microdermaabrasion, microneedling, radiofrequency, surgery, fat fill laser etc. Creams work only for superficial pigmentation not for scars. You can start initially on milder depigmentation creams which contain kojic acid, arbutin, niacinamide like Melaglow at night and use sunscreen (SPF 35 and above) three times a day. There is options of glutathione injections to oral tablets with vitamin C, also laser toning also gives good results. Laser toning using Q switch Nd Yag laser is an option but results variable. You may need 6-8 sessions at 3 weeks gap. And depending on type of skin whether oily or dry you can choose a face wash. It need examination and personalised plan. You can consult in private with photographs.

Isotretinoin does cause dryness of skin and redness initially. Its called tretinoin purge and takes few weeks to reduce. Also reactions depend on doses if someone has severe sideeffects we can reduce dose to 10 mg a day also. Its very important to use sunscreen during usage of tretinoin as skin becomes very sensitive. Consult your Dermatologist.

Causes and Treatments of Acne (Pimples)
Hi, Im Dr Jyotirmay Bharti, consultant dermatologist and cosmetologist. I am a director of skin radiance in Gurgaon and I am also a visiting consultant at Max Hospital, Saket and Paras Hospital, Gurgaon. Today I am going to talk about a very common topic, that is Acne. In general people call it pimples.

This is a common problem of adulthood and childhood. Mainly the adolescents suffer from this problem, but due to stress factor many a people are experiencing it after 30 years of age also. Why so? I will explain you later but this is a very common scenario and a very common problem people visit to me to seek some solution for acne.

At some period of time in your life everybody suffer from acne and they don t know how to manage it and they take over the counter medication, they seek some advice from family, from guardian, from internet which is not good because this is not a big problem. This is a very small thing and can be taken care of, if you seek a good person to take care of it like your dermatologist.

So, what is acne?

Basically, acne is the overproduction of serum and is an inflammation of sebaceous gland. Basically, there is a sebaceous gland which is attached to hair root where you get due to hormonal changes when you reach adolescence your hormone gets changed and it gets activated and so it leads to increase in sebum production that is oil production. So, increased secretion of oil over your face and body leads to blockage of the duct and the exit and that can lead to acne formation and that sometimes is attached with inflammation and inflammation is you can say some bacterial reaction, bacterial growth in that which leads to redness, pigmentation and scars over your face which is very depressing in adolescence.

People come to me seeking for advice for stress, pigmentation and scarring because if acne is not taken care of that can lead to so many pigmentation and scarring. Scarring is the bed, which you can see many people suffer from that. So, I would suggest go to your dermatologist, that treatment is very easy, don t go and seek any over the counter medication from any chemist because they generally recommend steroids which can further worsen your condition. Rather go to your dermatologist and there are so many medications and antibiotics as oral isotretinoin which reduces the inflammation real fast so you can prevent your scarring and pigmentation. Then there are so many chemical peeling and so many things which are available with us which we can introduce at a very good time saving your face and thus saving you from any kind of stress and depression. So visit your dermatologist and they will tell you how to clean your face. How simple procedures like applying a few creams and taking few oral medications can help you in your life.

So if you have any problem regarding your facial problem, your acne anytime you can connect me on librate.com So stay healthy, thank you so much, take care.

Acne And Its Treatment
Hello, everyone

I am Dr Mansi Sanghvi, I am the founder and medical director of Skin 360 Skin Hair and Laser Clinic, we are located at Pawai in Mumbai. I have been practicing as a Dermatologist and skin and hair expert over the last 10 years in Mumbai.

Today I will be talking to you about very common health problem that faces todays youth and that is pimples, marks and scar management. Acne which is commonly known as pimples is no longer limited to the Teenage it is now happening moreso in the adulthood and in adult life. Acne has been attacking people after they turn 22-23, so why is that happening, what is the cause of this type of acne? The cause lies in the hormonal imbalance which is again multifactorial in origin, it could be related to stress, dietary changes, lack of sleep, sedentary Lifestyle or simply using cosmetics which are not good for your health. Hormone imbalance clogs the pores which eventually leads to the pimples, pimples are of various types it could be small black heads or white heads or it could be a big puss filled pimples. Now how to manage it? The management starts at a simple baseline which is to use the right antibiotic cream which is prescribed by your Dermatologist and to do certain simple treatments in doctor's clinic. Those treatment include chemical peels, now these peels are derived from fruit acids which helps to exfoliate the excessive dead skin of your face and eventually leads to unclogging the pores, so that your skin can breathe and it reduces the pimples and inflammation. If this approach does not work we go to the second line of Management, which is to give you oral antibiotics which help to reduce the bacteria that causes pimples. Once this antibiotics work, the inflammation goes down and then what we are left with is some marks to deal with. Now how the marks are treated, marks are treated with again chemical peels which are specifically derived from sugarcane and they are called glycolic acid which are famous these days. This peel reduces the pigmentation and concentration of melanin in your skin eventually giving you a better looking skin texture and colour. The third issue that we need to deal is the scars that the acne leaves behind they are nothing but dark depressions on the skin, it is very important to treat them as early as possible otherwise they become a lifelong marks on your face. The scars are treated with Technologies like laser resurfacing or a simple dermaroller which causes resurfacing of the scar or eventually much lesser appearing marks. To enumerate again, the treatment of pimples would include chemical peels, microdermabrasion which is commonly known as skin polishing, lasers to reduce the marks which are known as Q switch laser or scar resurfacing which is done with laser or dermaroller. Now these treatments requires few sessions which are timely interval between 2 to 3 weeks, the whole treatment for pimple can last for from 2 months to up to 6 months as well. The doctor upon examining your skin can precisely tell you what would be the approach of treatment, in severe cases of pimples we may probably want to start with hormonal treatment especially in women who are suffering with from polycystic ovaries. U sing this combined approach for the treatment of pimples the Dermatologist can help you by up to 70%, so why not hundred percent because the remaining 30% is in your own hand. So what can you do to reduce your acne, first you invest into the right face wash which is pH balance if the right food which is taught to you by your grandpa and grandma, do regular exercises at least about half an hour everyday and indulge in activities which rejuvenate you which could be learning some new music or going to Zumba class or going to swim, understand that everything is related to hormonal imbalance and which will only worsen with the stress in your body and you need to went it out with recreation activities on a timely interval. So do the best possible in your own hand to improve the lifestyle and your quality of life and you should see the result in terms of your acne improvement along with the treatment that your doctor do for you.

I hope you have found this video useful, should you have any questions or any query or if you like to consult with me you may please do that using lybrate.com and book a consultation with me. Thank you very much.

Acne
Here are prevention and treatments of acne.

Hi! This is Dr. Rittika. I am a cosmetic physician, a trichologist, and a weight loss consultant. Today I am going to speak about Acne.

Acne is one of the most common skin problem today, as many as 1 and 2 people suffer from acne. These are may be red eruptions which may be filled with pus. Acne is formed when the mixture of dirt and dead skin cells clog our pores and leads to the eruption of red sores which we call acne or pimples. These mistakenly get infected with bacteria and it leads to the formation of pus and worsening of acne. The treatment of acne basically aims at treating the lesions which are always present to prevent further breakout and to prevent scarring and reduce the chances of scarring. Acne requires a proper medical treatment and post acne care for treatment of dark spots and scars which are commonly associated with acne.

Apart from medical treatment which involves an application of medications locally and oral medications if required, advanced treatments are also available. These are chemical peels, R.F therapy, Oxy-microcurrent therapy and micro needling therapy. I would highly recommend them because these not only cure acne but, they also lead to significant improvement in the appearance of scars and spots. The treatment is customized according to the need of the patient and severity of acne. Now acne may or may not lead to scarring. Some people are naturally more prone to scarring than others, for example, a person may have rather a severe acne without a scar inside, and for others, even a benign lesion can lead to a depressed pockmark. So early treatment is the best way to prevent scarring. If you are highly prone to scarring, consider meeting a cosmetic physician or a dermatologist right away and discuss acne treatment options with them.

I would like to give you tips for acne affected skin. First of all, if you have acne, do not touch or pig the area. Use only on comedogenic makeup, while going out in sun, use sunscreen, shave very carefully and shampoo your hair regularly. For more information on acne and for acne free clear skin, please visit Clinic Cosmoderma or book an appointment to lybrate.com. Thank you.

Know More About Acne
Hi, I am Dr Aman. I am a practising aesthetic physician and practising holistic medicine.

We will talk about a very common problem especially in youngsters and many times in slightly older people also. Especially these days we see this problem happening even in middle-aged women and middle-aged men. This is the problem of pimples or acne. We see a lot of impatient coming out with small pimples all over the face. Sometimes pimples happen more in the jawline area or more on the neck. Sometimes pimples happen even on the scalp or on the V of the neck. Many times pimples happen especially if it they happen at a younger age they are predominantly physiologically. There are some amount of pimples occurring on the cheek this area is more or less normally having a few simple deduction, a few times a month is considered to some extent normal but yes we need to create that simple application, a few dietary precautions usually help in taking care of the pimples and preventing recurrences. Some types of pimples tend to be very big, we tend to get big cystic acne on the side of the face or the whole face we get big boil kind of pimples on the face. Now that needs urgent attention and they can call this time scarring. It is not only important to treat pimples externally but also look at what are the underlying causes of pimples. The acne that happens on the jaw line or on the side of the face is usually hormonal acne. We should listen to our treating physician and find out the underlying hormonal problems and treat it accordingly. There is a type of acne which a lot of younger men get especially only on the forehead. Acne that happens sometimes because of the habit of smoking. Smoking it causes frontal acme so the treatment is slightly different.

There are many ways and methods of treating acne. Step one we should first focus on what we are eating. Anything that causes inflammation very spicy, very sugary foods, too much of carbohydrate, too much of bread, and biscuits, too much of tea, coffee all aggravate, may have the potential to aggravate acne. We have to rule out underlying hormonal causes. We should also rule out if there are certain medicines which are patient is taking which can cause acne. Barring this, the standard line of treatment for acne is the first step is infection and reaction control. Then we focus on a recurrence management then we also focus on cosmetic treatments. With just a few applications over a period of three to six months, we should be able to actually achieve good cosmetic improvement. Sometimes in some cases, lasers may be required also but in the concept of holistic medicine, we should look at the internal causes of acne.

We do not only treat outside we try and manage it inside out. If there are any underlying causes of acne inside the body we should bring those hormonal changes is one very important and commonly missed factor. As far as management of acne is concerned especially the first step infection part. It is very commonly seen that patients abuse antibiotics. Doctors prescribe antibiotics, and patients keep using the antibiotics on their own or some patients get hooked on to or get used to taking or applying only steroids. It is a very harmful practice must be avoided with. As far as our practice is concerned we try and manage acne with as low dose and as less duration of antibiotics as possible. Many times oral antibiotics are totally avoided. We have to take very good of protection against the jump getting resistant. Along with all the treatments, there are other certain simple herbal or home remedies that can be added to the treatment which goes a long way in managing it.

To know more about our concept of treatment you can look up for me on lybrate or read up all the unbiased information on holisticskincare.in
