It depends upon practice and cocentration. For improving your grasping power you should be try to concentrate on the things that are taught to you and try to picturize the things being taught while listening to it. If you keep a focused mind only on one thing that you would like to achieve then your grasping power pertaining to that area will definitely increase. Try noting down the things you are unable to grasp easily and recall them every night you sleep and check till how many days you are able to recall them with ease. After some time you get habituated to this but this time you don't need to note them down but you'll be grasping them instantly. The other way is make sure you try to memorize things you need using key words. Once that key word strikes your mind, you'll be able to get the entire scenario. Thinking speed can be improved by brain storming a variety of ideas pertaining to that area which you are trying to think. So once you try to inculcate these habits you can improve them gradually. Grasping and thinking speed development needs a rigorous practice.
