I am asking for my husband I thought he is in depression 6 years before he only take alcohol occasionally after some time he daily needs and I give him some medicines by which he can avoid drink too much but now he start taking sleeping pills 10-12 tablets per day. please tell me what to do? please help me out.

Dear Jyotsna, Congratulations for taking care, understanding and helping your husband for 6 years. Please let me know, what medicines you were giving him to avoid alcohol. It may be Ativan kind of tablets. Is he now dependent on Ativan or some other sleeping pill? He may be still in depression and that is why he is still dependent on pills. He needs proper treatment for depression along with getting him out of sleeping pills. Otherwise he may shift from one dependence to another to get some relief from depression. Please take help from the doctor who gave medicines to avoid alcohol. He may help you to diagnose depression or sleep disorder in Vikas and help you out.
