Alcohol Screen Urine Test

Alcohol Screen Urine Test

The ethanol test/EtG is performed to find out the presence of alcohol in urine, even after the alcohol is no longer measurable. The presence of EtG in urine is an indicator that alcohol was ingested and can be detected in urine up to 80 hours from the time of ingestion. The test may also be done on a regular basis for a person who is being treated for alcohol abuse.

No special preparation is required for the test. The person should be hydrated enough to be able to give sufficient amount of sample for the test. It is advised to drink one or two glasses of water prior to the test.

This test measures the amount of alcohol blood (ethanol) in the patient’s body. Legal intoxication is defined as having a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.80 or greater.

A random urine test can be collected at any time of the day The patient is advised to give a urine sample in a small plastic container to the lab technician Once the sample is collected it is sealed in an airtight container and taken to the lab for further analysis
