Im asking this question for my would be husband. He is 31 years old. 6 months before doctors found he is diabetic. Suggested istamet 50/500. He stopped using that tablet after 1 month. He controlled his blood sugar. From last 2 months his sugar level is between 130-150. He has lots of stress about our marriage. Is diabetics affect our sexual life? Which tablet should he taken for diabetics? His mother also a diabetic patient. He is not using any medicines now.

Lybrate-user, if a person has confirmed diabetes and is on treatment, then stopping the treatment is not advisable. The sugar level mentioned (130 to 150 mg) is which one? fasting or pp? because once drug treatment is stopped blood sugar can increase disproportionately. Get his hba1c% checked, it has to aoround 6 to be free from diabetes. (5.9 to 6.4 % is prediabetes, >6.5 % is diabetes). As regards affection of sexual life, yes it can get affected if blood sugar levels are not strictly controlled with appropriate treatment. It is better if consults a proper diabetologist. Thanks.
