Hello doctor. I am a 17 year old girl. Doc I have a swollen lymph (i think) about an inch below my hairline behind my neck. I saw it for the first time in november of 2020. I have to let you know that it was a time my thyroid levels were really low and was not on medication. I was told that it was okay by a relative who is a nurse. But now I am tensed that it has not gone down. I don't feel or see any other swelling or symptoms and also feel that it has decreased I size, but swell up if I press on it. I also had surgery last month to remove a benign tumour from my hard palate. Do you think that it was caused by my hypothyroidism or tumour or is it something worse? Is it a cause of concern? Should I visit a gp?

Hii lybrate-user. U should visit a general surgeon for the examination of the swelling and it should be diagnosed and treated. You are saying swelling is behind your neck if it is behind your neck it should not be associated with your thyroid. But do go check out the thyroid levels and if they are low you should be starting your treatment.

I feel --it is not a cause of concern--kindly check whether you have dandruff ;lice infestation or any minor scratch injuries on your scalp or any ear infection recently .if so-- it is due to that .also check --is it hard; attached to skin or underlying structures ;have irregular surface ;growing quickly ;pain or tenderness in it------if so kindly consult a surgeon soon. If not --show a doctor when you get time.
