I have been suffering of ocd for last 5 years. Now I consulted with a doctor. He asked me to take fluoxetine 20 mg, fludac.daily 1 capsule. I checked in google about this fludac. Noticed several side effects of fluoxetine. So I am worried about the side effects. Should I continue to take fluoxetine? And how long I can take fluoxetine?

Yes, fluoxetine has been very effective in treatment of ocd and side effects are there but tolerable and reduce with time. So would recommend to take medication as per your doctor's advice. Medications will be given for atleast 1 year or more under observation aa your doctor and your symptoms will decide duration but follow advice properly and don't google much.

It is a good drug for ocd. Was your doctor a psychiatrist, if so you can take as ocd has various types and various medications to go with it. If the doctor is not a psychiatrist, better consult one and take. Second, not all people develop side effects, if you do, it can be dealt with also. It is a very safe medication, so don't worry. Even if you google paracetamol there will be lot of side effects, so don't use your googling to interfere in your well being. Good luck.

Dear lybrate-user, for 5 long years, you have been living with ocd. If you can continue to live with it, worry about side effects of fluoxetine. If you want your quality of your life to improve without ocd, please put to test whether you develop these googled side effects or not. Please continue to take fluoxetine as long as the doctor has prescribed. Please go back to her/him without stopping, to increase the dose - weighing the effect and side effect. How long to take, depends on your severity of ocd and other disorders along with ocd, your way of challenging the compulsions (rituals) etc.
