Sir, Mujhe waham ho gya hai ki ye chij gandi hai, wo gandi hai, or agar cloth niche gir jata h ya phir koi usko chuu leta hai to mujhe lgta hai ki wo khrb yani ganda ho gya. Mai uss cloth ko baar baar dhoti hu. Mai thak chli hu kpde dho dho ke, Sab mera mzak bnate hai.

You can do this-- write down your thoughts or worries. Keep a pad and pencil on you, or type on a laptop, smartphone, or tablet. When you begin to obsess, write down all your thoughts or compulsions. Keep writing as this urges continue, aiming to record exactly what you’re thinking, even if you’re repeating the same phrases or the same urges over and over. Writing it all down will help you see just how repetitive your obsessions are. Writing down the same phrase or urge hundreds of times will help it lose its power. Writing thoughts down is much harder work than simply thinking them, so your obsessive thoughts are likely to disappear sooner.

Hi kashif, before taking any action I suggest you to talk to a therapist. Get an assessment on stress and regarding your behaviour. Cbt might help you along with mindfulness therapies. But also need to continue medicine. So also get in close with psychiatric.

Dear Lybrate-user, escitalopram and clonazepam are standard treatment for anxiety and depression. If it is prescribed for you, you should take it for 2-3 weeks and report to the doctor again. Now that you are not taking it, please consult your doctor and if she/he prescribes, take it. How many time, will depend on your improvement and side effects.

Hello doctor I am suffering from religious sexual ocd and ocd, depression also, doing a lot of mental and physical rituals in response to obsessions, for which I consulted psychiatrist yesterday and he prescribed sertraline and etizolam for that. Sir I have to ask whether I can continue from today or I must continue after my brother's marriage since my elder brother's marriage is scheduled after 2 weeks. I am asking because I fear side effects can affect my responsibility at time of marriage.

Dear Anand, You have been suffering from OCD for quite some time. You have been managing your duties with OCD. It does not matter, if you start tablets after another 2 weeks. For your information, the side effects of sertraline and etizolam will not prevent you to do your responsibilities during your brother's marriage.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - How To Manage It?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - How To Manage It?

Do you have a family member or a close friend who is suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder? Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a disorder, which causes anxiety, and is also known as anxiety disorder. The disorder is featured by continuous, uncontrollable and unpleasant thoughts. OCD causes a patient’s mind to get stuck on a certain inclination. Obsessive thoughts and compulsive behavior patterns indicate OCD.
Dealing with an OCD patient

After the initial diagnosis, a patient with OCD enters the stage of acute treatment. The treatment aims at coping with and overcoming the symptoms of OCD.

  1. Education: Patients with OCD should get to know as much as possible about the disorder they are suffering from. You should help an OCD affected patient by providing them with the opportunity to read about the disease and talk to other patients, along with regular appointments with a clinician. A treatment plan has to be developed. OCD patients in an acute treatment stage should be taken to a doctor every week, in order to discuss their progress.
  2. Therapy: Therapy helps them cope with the symptoms of OCDCognitive behavioral psychotherapy is undertaken for treating patients with OCD. This mode of treatment gives the patients psychological tools, which help them resist the ill effects of the condition.
  3. Medication: Medicines are not required for all OCD patients. Some patients diagnosed with the condition are prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor or SSIs for dealing with the symptoms of OCD. The medicines should be taken for a period of three to four weeks before any results are experienced. 12 weeks are required for a patient to know whether the medicines are working or not. An SRI is ineffective in some cases, and you may be prescribed non-selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor like Clomipramine. This affects the serotonin but has positive impacts on other neurotransmitters in your brain.
  4. Family support: Family members play an important part in helping OCD patients manage their condition by providing constant support, staying calm, and being educated about the condition. OCD patients should be treated with affection and should be complimented often. The observations of the patient by family members help a doctor in determining the patient’s condition. As a family member or close friend, you must never be critical about the patient or state negative comments about his condition. Such feedback causes the patient’s condition to worsen. Family members should discuss all problems they face regarding the patient to a doctor.

Patients who have completed OCD treatment require monthly check-ups with a doctor for six months. A year of cognitive therapy is required to be carried out, along with the intake of prescribed medicines.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (ocd) is a common mental health problem. Symptoms typically include recurring thoughts and repetitive actions in response to the recurring thoughts. A common example is recurring thoughts about germs and dirt, with a need to wash your hands repeatedly to "clean off the germs" however, there are many other examples like sexual thoughts, counting, checking, orderliness, etc. The usual treatments are cognitive behavioural therapy (cbt), a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (ssri) antidepressant medicine, or both. Treatment often works well to reduce the symptoms and distress of ocd greatly. All the best.
