My hubby is 44 yrs old, 66Kg, 5' 3" tall, vegetarian, mildly active exercises, non-drinker. His HEMOGLOBIN A1c is 6.3 and Direct LDL is 102. Please advise food and lifestyle changes.

He is slightly over weight. HbA1C reading is borderline; LDL is ok. Ask him to follow these lifestyle changes:- 1. Regular brisk walking for 30 minutes. 2. Avoid oily, spicy & fast foods. 3. Preferably avoid or minimise carbohydrates in the diet (rice, potato etc) 4. Avoid or minimise non veg. 5. Timely food intake is a must (no late breakfast or late dinner). 6. 6-7 hrs good sleep is mandatory.

He seems to be alright. He should increase his exercises. Are any of his first degree relatives diabetic? In that case you may have to monitor his blood sugar once a year.
