Hi sir, my 1 month baby boy is excessive crying (strain, grunt) while he supposed to pass motion. And he will pass very little stool that too semi solid only. And keep on crying. We are stimulating him using tamarind sticks. Then he will pass all the motion. Last week we met pediatrician. Explained the thing. He suggested to use colimex drops. After using this. He is not crying. And not passing stool from past 2 days. What we have to do?

Grunting before passing stool is a normal behaviour for babys. And, baby's bowel habits are unpredictable in the first 6 months of life. He may pass stools 7-8 times per day or pass stool once in 3-4 days. Donot use tamarind sticks/beetle leaf etc. These are harmful practices. Colimex drops help in infantile colic. (colicky pain of abdomen. Usually in the evening. Usually harmless) if stool is not passed for more than 5 days, then suppository may be required.
