Sir, my son is 23 years old now suffering from mental illness since when he was appx 17 years old. He could not get success for iit. He dropped for 2nd chance. In between he went into depression. Initial symptoms were - he suspected police are changing him, sometimes vigilance people or every known persons are doing conspiracy against him. Doctor gave five counselling after that prescribed fludac 20 mg. About one and half months he had taken. Thereafter, he resisted for taking further. When he could not get success for iit, he decided to do b.sc. Honors. One day, merely after one month of college, he returned from college himself laughing and body movement was not normal. He was not responding anyone word in the family. Immediately rushed to the psychiatrist who prescribed olimelt 10 mg. After 10 days he started noticing word of the family members and taking foods. It was very surprising to us to notice that although he became full senseless even after at the college going time he tried to go out for college. Slowly we reduced the dose to 2.5 mg (frankly speaking without advice of doctor). He is very passionate of scientific job. He always appreciates scientist einstein. He himself managed for iit jam coaching and he got success and got admission in iit. And was living in hostel. But unfortunately he totally stopped taking medicines and his change in behaviour was noticed by the authority. The authority didn't ready to continue him further. After that he became more upset. Now last one year doctor is prescribing olimelt 15 mg + fludac 20 mg for schizophrenia. Psychologist gave counselling but she couldn't get success in finding of my son problem. Simply said he is suffering from anxiety. psychiatrist is saying they will reduce the dose but still not. Other hand my son is saying he is totally ok. Once again he is trying for iit jam exam in case he got admission in the iit of same city. What will be in the long run with his other health problems as I read that heart disease, lung cancer etc. Occurs in the long run. Is it true? What can I do other best things for his health. What are your helpful suggestions?

There may be no reason for problem apart from chemical imbalance its indicative of schizophrenia for sure paranoia but need to understand more about the symptoms and issues. Consult with me or any psychologist for therapy and counseling online or in person all the best.

First try to make sure he never leaves medication as he is diagnosed with schizophrenia .he should continue with counselling sessions as stress of any kind will lead to increase in symptoms.

Your son based on the symptoms is most likely having schizophrenia, which is a major mental illness which needs long term treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation. The medication olimelt is good for initial symptom control, there are better medications for maintenance. Better not adjust the dose by yourself as it will be detrimental. The need for fludac is dubious here. Get a second opinion if needed, if things are going fine regularly attend psychiatrist review and work on his symptoms and life style changes. Good luck.
