Anxiety Questions

I have my exams in 10 days. Because of anxiety, I am unable to concentrate. I am wasting time. Even though from inside I know I can achieve it. Still something is bothering me. I have uncertainty and fear of losing. I need someone who can just reassure and support me that everything will be ok. I feel I need GOD.

At your age this claim is serious. If you have depression then there are some major ramifications to take into account. I believe there may be some genetic predisposition or there has been some childhood issue, related to anger, that needs urgent attention. You must go and meet with a competent counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. It is likely that your therapist was not suitable because it may not have been that person's speciality. So please find a depression therapist and work out the details with him/her. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, spend time in nature or gardening, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do calisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

I am not sure who got you hooked onto sleeping pills. On a longer run they will shrink your brain, resulting in early onset dementia, personality changes, memory changes, even withdrawal seizures. Kindly consult a psychiatrist, get your sleep evaluated, and he will gradually wane you off the sleeping pills and give pills which promote sleep by acting on the cause of sleep disturbance, he may also educate you on sleep hyigiene.

A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions when there is no real danger or apparent cause. Panic attacks can be very frightening. When panic attacks occur, you might think you're losing control, having a heart attack or even dying. Many people have just one or two panic attacks in their lifetimes, and the problem goes away, perhaps when a stressful situation ends. But if you've had recurrent, unexpected panic attacks and spent long periods in constant fear of another attack, you may have a condition called panic disorder. Panic attack can come in agoraphobia, when there is fear of places where there is no exit, in crowds, locked places, travelling far from home….etc. Although panic attacks themselves aren't life-threatening, they can be frightening and significantly affect your quality of life. But treatment can be very effective. Consult a Psychiatrist and get remedy. All the best for you.

In order to prevent future attacks, you may benefit from: getting outside assistance, altering your thinking about panic attacks, using anxiety-reducing techniques, and focusing on your physical health. Talking with others who have attacks may help you to feel in control of your condition and lead to helpful panic attack management resources. Group members can share strategies for facing and managing fear and their successes. . Ask your family to help you face your fears instead of avoiding them, stay positive with you as you work through your anxiety, and be patient while you confront your disorder. Start by letting your family members know that you suffer from panic attacks and that you would appreciate their support in your recovery. Try being assertive and straight-forward about your panic attacks. You could say something like, "I want to talk to you about a problem I've been having. I have been experiencing panic attacks that are very scary for me. I would appreciate any help you can offer me. I need your support in my treatment of this problem." Consult in private for CBT and medication. More details required.

I feel low, sad and tired all the time. I am obsessed with a part of my body which everyone says looks fine but to me it looks weird. I used to see it in mirror all the time but now I have avoided looking at it in mirrors. I have never been to a psychiatrist before but I remember having issues even as a child. I used to pull my hair from my legs, arms, even genitals. But that went away with time. For next four years I was happy and no such thing happened. But in Feb, my boyfriend cheated on me and since then this problem started. I started obsessing over my eyes. They are asymmetrical since I have some genetic condition but everyone says it's nothing I should obsess over. I don't know how to accept it and move on. I think nobody understands. I really really need a very good doctor who can just tell me what is wrong with me. I can barely function. every time I try to start something new to feel better, I quit after one or two days. Please help.
