I am suffering from neck pain and shoulder stiffness since 9-10 years. Have tried couple of docs and did 2 times xray and mri but nothing serious was detected. Mri report impression: small disk protrusion at c5-c6 without spinal stenosis. Xray impression: straightened cervical lordosis can indicate muscle spasm. Osseous structure are intact. No endplate spur formation. Disc space heights are maintained. But still I am having that serious pain. It starts with neck and shoulder and then I get headache. I used to have that pain for 2-3 days then it cools down for 2-3 days and then again it starts. I don?t take any medication, only when my headache starts then I take disprin. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

when spine protrusion occurs it will weaken the ligaments around it. these week ligaments are not in a position to hold any tension in spin and that is the reason for pain the only way you get rid of this pain and prevent further deterioration is to strengthen the paraspinal muscles, and this can be done systematically with physiotherapy so you better consult a good physio and plan a long-term treatment for atleast two months this will help you to gain good strength and get rid of any structural changes

Your scans do not show anything serious or worrying. Since you have been having pain for so long, it is important to look at your shoulder as well, as the issue maybe with your shoulder. Doing an xray or mri scan of your shoulder may be necessary. Once this pain is fully evaluated, then appropriate treatment can be given.
