I am suffering from anxiety cum depression from last 5 years. I am taking prestiq 50 presently but due to this medicine I have gained weight and my weight is now increased to 88 KGS. What should I do I am from last 2-3 months not feeling depressed. Whether I should reduce prestiq 50 dose or do something else. I have to sit full day due to office work. Please suggest I want to give up the medicine and reduce my weight to 70 kgs.

Lybrate-user, Please do not stop any medication without consulting a psychiatrist as it has to be done under supervision while monitoring your mental state. Of course antidepressants are reviewed regularly and only prescribed when benefits outweigh risks. I suggest you first start your healthy daily living practises including setting time for regular exercise, take 10 minute break from your office chair and you can even do a 7 minute workout at the office. Apart from this stay hydrated that will reduce hunger pangs, include vegetables and protein in your diet. All these will not only help reduce your weight but also improve your mood.

Hi, For reducing the medication please ask your treating psychiatrist. He/she knows your history so will reduce it accordingly. Aa far as weight issues I would suggest you to join a gym or a brisk walk for an hour daily. You may go there after your office. It will energize you as well as will help in relaxing your mind. Also check your diet. Have lots of water. Medicines alone are the reason for the weight gain it's our life style first to blame for.
