Tooth ache can be due to many reasons. If you are having pain on taking cold it may be due to attrition. If it is while taking hot then there might be a cavity which has reached the blood vessel that is pulp. We can only asses the pain after seeing an OPG XRay. Blackening may not be seen if the cavity is in between two teeth. You can use some desensitizing paste and do warm salt water gargle.

May be that caries are present in between 2 teeth which is difficult for you to see. Kindly get an X-ray done of the tooth having pain. May be you will have to get root canal treatment done followed by a cap/crown. Brush your teeth twice daily using correct brushing technique to maintain your oral hygiene.
