I am 58 y old and taking AmlopressAT for last 20 years. 2 weeks back I suddenly got low BP (110/60) and had giddiness. After consulting with cardiologist, he suggested taking Amlong 5, however, still the the BP is low in the morning and does not rise beyond 140/90. He has now suggested to stop tablet for BP. Can the BP medicine be stopped abruptly ?ECG is normal.

I don't think he would suggest that you stop medication at Blood pressure of 140/90 with medication. Confirm his opinion before going ahead.

Hello Lybrate user, Yes of course B.P. Medicine can be stopped abruptly. But along with it you should start taking some ayurvedic alternative which will help you to maintain your B.P. Level. For further information please feel free to call me. Regards

You can decrease amlong to 2.5 mg and see the response, if bp goes below 120/80, than stop by medication.

Dear Mr. lybrate-user, Being Hypertensive for almost 20 years and your BP being 110/60 with medication on one occassion might not be the reason for your giddiness. You should consult the doctor to rule out other cause if you suffer from giddiness repeatedly. Also you should target your BP within range of 130-140/80 mmhg and it should not be beyond that. So I do not think stopping your antihypertensive medication would help you in this case & also in some case hypertensive patients BP does shoot up on not taking regular medication. So in brief if your bp is under 140/90 range with medication, you should continue your medicine and if you suffer from giddiness persistently then get thorough check up done to rule out other causes & if it was only a single episode of giddiness then no need to worry at present. Thank You.
