Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Diabetes mellitus is occurring either due to lack of Insulin or resistance to insulin action or both. This is seen in T2 DM. In T1 there is no insulin secretion at all from Beta cells of Islets of Langerhans in pancreas. Since Insulin is required for metabolism of carbs, fats and proteins daily, it has to be made available every day. So if a person gets diabetes, then treatment has to go on fro lifetime. Very rarely there are reports of its reversal. Thanks.
