Hi, Lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. To detect whether a person has diabetes or not, usually fasting and after food blood glucose test should be done. For a person who is on treatment for diabetes, it better to get fasting and PP glucose tested every week or once a fortnight or even later. This depends on the severity of the disease, plus whether insulin is being taken. If Insulin is being taken then almost daily check up is needed, even 2 to 4 times a day may be required. HbA1c% is done once in 3 to 6 months, to see whethr there is long term control. In addition one can do serum creatinine, urea and microalbuminuria, to find out how the kidneys are functioning. Thanks.
