My 2.8 old daughter is having nasal polyps and after her x-ray we came to know that there is 90% blockage. ENT has recommended some medicines and nasal spray & he said that we should wait for two weeks and then we will decide whether we should go for surgery or not. My daughter is active for the whole day and she can sleep well in the night but the only problem is she can't get rid of cough and cold which is more noticeable in the morning and sometimes she feels helpless because of nasal congestion and she has persistent cough and cold from last two and half months. It seems stable sometimes and cough increases after having particular good item like cream biscuits, which we are avoiding now. Cough and cold is not there for the whole day but it's not going fully. We don't want to go for surgery because she is too young. Please suggest something. Is there any other solution rather than surgery.

Dear lybrate-user Please correct your words nasal polyps. Its not. The diagnosis might be adenoid hypertrophy blocking 90% of nose from behind which is grade 4 usually. Please dont think that surgery will be harmful for 2.8 years kid because I will ask you to do something which will tell you the pain your kid is going through every night. Just close your nose for 5 mins and try to breathe through mouth. Shes doing the same for entire night. This adenoid enlargement will be there till she gets to 10 years age so please dont think of options such as avoiding surgery as it may affect the brain development in children due to snoaring. Kids loose sharpness and decision making when the grow up due to sleep disturbances at this age. If you wanna gift your child any special thing for her next birthday then please get the surgery done and gift her a sound healthy sleep and good brain development. Talk to your doctor further and get clarification directly before taking decisions. Get well soon kid.
