Hello dear, hi Warm welcome to Lybrate.com I have evaluated your query thoroughly.* The decision for type of surgery required is dependent on multiple factors evaluation as - age of the patient - type of hernia - size of the gap - associated co morbid conditions as diabetes, high BP, heart issues - willingness of the patient - surgeon`s expertise to decide best options for the patient * Recurrence after surgery can have that in both cases but more in laparoscopic ones as compared to the open surgery. Hope this will help you for sure. Welcome for any further guidance. Regards.

Hello sir, first of all one thing should be clear that hernia requires surgery. It is the only treatment of choice. Choice for open or laparoscopic hernia surgery depends on patient's general condition and co-morbidities like diabetes, hypertension, cardio-respiratory disease and age of patient. Laparoscopic repair is a comparatively newer technique having advantage of 3 small incisions, early post-operative recovery and minimal scar. Disadvantages are chances of recurrence are slightly high and it is costly, almost double than conventional open technique and requirement of general anaesthesia. Only disadvantage of open repair is slightly bigger incision. I hope this info will help you. For further queries feel free to consult.
