My mother is 69 years old having blood pressure and diabetes. Recently had breathing difficulty so doctors found water in lungs. Her creatinine is 3.6 and haemoglobin is 8.9.please suggest.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Presence of fluid in lungs (pleural effusion), could be due to some underlying problem with the lungs like Tuberculosis. That has to be investigated and if present should be promptly treated with appropriate drugs. Because in persons with diabetes incidence of TB is quite high. High creatinine (3.6 mg) signifies problems with kidney functioning. High BP and uncontrolled diabetes both can cause damage to the kidney leading to increased creatinine, So it is essential for achieving strict blood glucose control and near normal BP. Plus her protein intake has to be not more than 0.6 g/kg /day. Thanks.
