What your doctor probably meant to say was that FAT from the bone marrow had moved into his lungs. This condition is known s fat embolism. It is a very serious condition and symptoms depend on the amount of fat blocking the arteries. Minimal amount of embolism will cause only mild respiratory distress while massive fat embolisms can be fatal. There is no medicines which can cure this condition. In most cases it can resolve spontaneously. Only supportive therapy like assisted ventilation, oxygenation, etc. Can help. Sometimes steroids are given also.
