I am Dr Nisha Agarwal working as Head of the department in obstetrics and gynaecology at VPS Rockland Hospital, Manesar. As an obstetrician, I routinely treat pregnant ladies.

In last few years, I have realised that there is a lot of increase in the anxiety of expecting parents ; what about my pregnancy , what about medical complications, whether it would be a vaginal delivery or caesarean sections and lot many more.

I don't blame them, actually we are living in a digitalised world , where lot of information is available and we read them and interpret them accordingly. I feel most of us have actually forgotten the true meaning of pregnancy and childbirth.

To relieve all this anxiety and to make them independent to tackle are their delivery and pregnancy related issues - I take birth prep classes for many parents. In these classes, I teach them about birth Psychology. After attending these classes , expecting parents especially husbands understand their role during these 9 months and they are able to make this beautiful journey, as smooth and peaceful as it should be.

As a gynecologist, I come across problems like menstrual disorders, ovarian cyst, uterine fibroids and many more . Most of the times , we need to do surgical procedures for these kinds of problems. Here I would like to say the progress in medical science is a boon to humanity and especially for women.

Gone are the days when you have to be at the month of open surgery, these days we do all gynaecological procedures by a laparoscopic technique. We all know in laparoscopy, we do not cut open your abdomen . In fact, we make two or three small holes through which we pass our instruments and complete the procedures via these pores only. In laparoscopy, we get a very magnifying view because of which the injury to adjacent discharge is very much reduced, blood loss is quite minimised and in all, these ultimately lead to very short stay in the hospital.

The post surgery pain is very less and the recovery is very fast and you can resume your routine activities very soon. In fact, in few surgeries, we do it as a day care procedure, where we admit you and discharge on the same day and you can resume your all routine activities from the very next day.

Here at VPS Rockland Hospital, I do all ovarian cyst removals, fibroid removal, hysterectomies and even gynaecological Cancer Surgery via this technique. We also treat couples who are not able to conceive. For these kinds of patients, I do detailed consultation and then try to find out the cause and then treat them accordingly. Here at this hospital, we are doing all procedures like oblation destruction, intrauterine insemination and in vitro fertilization too. But many times, we find there is no cause and actually it is your dietary pattern, your lifestyle changes and day to day stress in your life which is leading to all these problems.
