My father is 50 years old & suffering from spinal problems and he is recovering but he also has depression due to spinal problems. He every minute have suicidal thoughts and speak the same thing to leave him somewhere. Medicine is going on from 1 and half month but still no benefit. We unable to do anything. What to do?

In any chronic medical illness, it is common for patients to feel depressed and anxious. This can be due to a number of reasons: fear of death, pain, discomfort, loss of previously held abilities, dependence, etc. As he is expressing suicidal ideas, it is urgent that you consult a psychiatrist who will prescribe medication according to his symptoms. Ensure that he takes the medicine in a supervised capacity. Do not alter any dose without consulting your doctor. I am not clear what medication he is on currently. Consult your doctor immediately and inform them about his condition. Other than, family support is very important.

As your father is suffering from depression and is expressing suicidal ideas, he needs urgent care and treatment. Kindly consult psychiatrist. And also it is well known that chronic medical illnesses have depression associated with them. Also don't leave him alone and be with him.
