Hello, In gestational diabetes your aim should be to keep fasting blood sugar less than 95 and postprandial blood sugar less than 120. It's important that along with drug treatment you practice medical nutrition therapy which includes calorie restriction, taking small meals at frequent intervals and 10 min walk after lunch and dinner along with light intensity exercises. Yes, drug treatment with metformin (glycomet) is safe and can be continued. However if treatment with metformin does not help to achieve target blood sugar level than insulin should be considered.
