lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. To control increasing weight in hypothyroidism first and foremost is to control TSH level effectively. It has to be maintained < 3 mU/L. Otherwise efforts to reduce weight may not be successful. So please check the TSH level. It is important to take exact amount of calories needed for you based on ideal body weight (60 kgs), amount of daily exercise (about 1 hour a day) Avoid sweets, junk foods, deep fried foods, pastries, bakery items, colas and foods made out of maida. Whole wheat flour is good. Unless one is having problem with gluten, there is no need to avoid wheat. Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Exercise daily which should include aerobic and resistance building activities. Thanks.
