Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. Medical guidelines define hypertension as blood pressure higher than 130 over 80 millimeters of mercury (mmHg), according to guidelines issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) in November 2017. It typically develops over the course of several years. Sometimes, asymptomatic but even without symptoms, it can cause damage to your blood vessels and organs, especially the brain, heart, eyes, and kidneys.

Symptoms of severe hypertension can include:

A number of risk factors increase the chances of having hypertension are:

  • Size and weight: Being overweight or obese is a key risk factor
  • Alcohol and tobacco use: Consuming large amounts regularly
  • Existing health conditions: Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and high cholesterol levels can lead to hypertension, especially as people get older.
  • Physical inactivity
  • A salt-rich diet associated with processed and fatty foods
  • Low potassium in the diet
  • Certain medications

Homeopathy can help high blood pressure, determining its cause through a holistic approach which not only can lower and stabilize blood pressure but also has a positive effect on overall health.

Few remedies indicated are:

Argentum nitricum - If blood pressure rises with anxiety and nervousness, “Stagefright” or anticipation of a stressful event bringing on dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and a pounding pulse.

Adonis - A heart medicine after rheumatism or influenza, rapid and irregular pulse, precordial pain, fatty heart pericarditis, cardiac dropsy.

Calcarea Carbonica - Palpitations and breathing problems can be worse from walking up a slope or stairs, and also when lying down. A general chilliness with clammy hands and feet (the feet may heat up in bed at night) and sweat on the head during sleep are other indicators. The person is easily tired and has poor stamina tending toward weight problems.

Glonoinum - A flushed face with a pounding headache and visible throbbing in the blood vessels of the neck may indicate a need for this remedy. The chest can feel congested or hot, with a pounding or irregular heartbeat. The person is worse after moving around, heat and sun exposure, and drinking alcohol.

Natrum muriaticum - Headaches and palpitations are common, as well as a feeling of tension (even coldness) in the chest. The person feels worse after sun exposure, worse around mid-morning, and better when alone in a quiet place. There is a craving for salt and strong thirst.

Phosphorus - Sensitive and sympathetic, with a tendency toward weakness, dizziness, a “spaced-out” feeling, and fearfulness. Nosebleeds, facial flushing, palpitations, feelings of heaviness or pain in the chest, and left-sided problems are often seen. A strong desire for cold drinks and refreshing things present.

Kalmia - Palpitation, worse leaning forward, tachycardia with pain, frequent weak pulse, hypertrophy, valvular insufficiency, tobacco heart.
