Home Remedies For Hair Fall: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

Hair fall is normal and it happens to everyone. However, excessive hair fall and baldness is irregular. In order to seek treatment, you must find out the underlying cause. The causes of hair fall could be heredity, hormonal changes like pregnancy or menopause, certain medicines, chemicals, severe illnesses and harmful hair products or harsh shampoo. In most cases, with the help of treatment and healthy lifestyle changes, it is possible to remedy hair fall. It is important to identify irregular hair fall as soon as possible so that treatment can be effective.

Here are a few home remedies that can help treat hair fall and enhance hair growth:

  • Amla (Gooseberry) oil: Amla contains vitamin D and it has anti-inflammatory properties. This home remedy strengthens the hair follicles, scalp and keeps hair fall in check. To make this remedy, boil half a cup of coconut oil and add three dried Amlas to it. Take this mixture off the gas and let it cool down. Massage this oil on to your scalp and leave it on for half an hour. Then wash it out and shampoo your hair. You can also use a paste of Amla powder and lime juice, instead. Use this remedy twice a week.
  • Onion juice: The anti-bacterial properties and sulfur content of onions help to strengthen hair as well as boost hair growth. To make this remedy simply peel, cut and grate an onion. Then strain out the juice of the grated onion. You can either apply this juice directly or add a spoon of olive oil to it. Massage the juice onto your scalp and leave it on, for around half an hour. Then shampoo your hair thoroughly. Repeat this process twice a week.
  • Aloe Vera juice or gel: Aloe vera promotes healthy growth of hair and also normalizes pH levels of the scalp. Apply either Aloe vera juice or gel to your hair twice a week, before you shampoo it. You can use this remedy twice or thrice a week.

Are there any side effects?

There are a few side effects for using the home remedies for hair fall. Although, these side effects are minor and do not affect most people. A few people experience an allergic reaction to both amla and aloe vera, which can lead to skin irritation or rashes. If you keep either amla or aloe vera, for too long on your scalp, it can cause you to develop a runny nose, cold and dry out your scalp. Using onion in excess on your scalp can give it a bad odor.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

Here are a few post-remedy guidelines that you should follow along with the home remedies for hair fall:

  • Avoid harsh, strong hair products and hair styling products. This can lead to hair loss. Use a gentle baby shampoo instead. It is advisable to avoid using a straightener, hair curlers, blow dryers and hair color.
  • You should keep your hair clean. Wash it regularly, every alternative day but only with gentle hair products. Pat your hair dry, rather than rubbing it with a towel.
  • It is important to eat healthily, drink lots of water and follow a healthy lifestyle pattern. This can help you to maintain a regular hair growth cycle.

How long does it take to recover?

These home remedies should take effect within two or three weeks. Your hair will be strengthened and hair growth should improve. If excessive hair fall continues for more than two weeks, you should seek medical consultation immediately.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

These home remedies are efficient in boosting hair growth and decreasing hair fall. However, it is not certain to eliminate excessive hair fall. If hair fall is due to a serious underlying condition then the results of these remedies may not be permanent.

Is there any training or experts required?

You do not a trained medical expert, in order to use these home remedies for hair fall. They are relatively simple to use and are easily available in stores. Only if there is any serious side effect, you should contact a medical professional immediately.

Pressing Machines And Curlers Not All That Good!

There is hardly anyone happy with their looks, especially when it comes to their hair. Those who have straight hair wish that they had curly hair. The ones with curly hair envy the ones with straight hair as they don’t have to worry about brushing it all day. As such, there is a constant rush at salons to curl up straight hair and straighten up curly hair.

There are instant ways to do this, but what is important for us to understand is that this is not natural. Both pressing and curling happen with the use of artificial chemicals and extreme heat, which can be harmful for hair.

Another fad we see is people going in for these treatments by using peers as reference. It should be borne in mind that each person would react to these treatments differently, depending on the type of hair and length of hair. What worked for a friend may not necessarily work for you too. The intent is not to discourage, but to caution. Think about it, be mindful of what can possibly go wrong, and then put yourself in safe hands to get this done.

Possible Harmful Effects

  1. Allergic Reaction: The chemicals used may possibly cause allergic reaction. So it is always advisable to do a small test before going ahead with it. Apply the chemical on your arm and wait for 24 hours. If no reaction is seen, go ahead with it. Even if that tested positive, there is a chance that the chemical can cause a delayed allergic reaction, which can happen with exposure to sun or even after a few days. Seek medical help if that happens.

  2. Dryness: Hair straightening leaves the hair dry and devoid of its natural moisture. Avoid using the dryer as much as possible and oil the hair frequently.

  3. Hair Fall: Using poor chemicals and improper techniques can cause hair fall, as the follicles break away from the roots.

  4. Overall Appearance: Though curling or straightening could be a temporary move, if not done well, you are worse off than the just-unhappy feeling you had with your natural hair. This is an even bigger blow for your self-esteem and personality.

All this does not mean hair straightening and pressing should be completely avoided. The trick is to do it in moderation, use good styling products, choose a stylist carefully, and go for regular hair care. The home hair care products also should be of high-quality standards. When you see your hair not harmed, you will feel it was worth the investment. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

Say Yes to Vitamins and No to Hair Fall

Hair fall is a very common phenomenon that plagues millions of people around the globe. Most of you take supplements of vitamin on a regular basis as it aids the buildup of new hair and skin cells. Read on to find out how exactly do the various vitamins help your hair:

  1. Vitamin A: This vitamin controls the production of retinoic acid in your hair follicle. It is not only helpful for skin care but stimulates hair growth. It is immensely fruitful in moisturizing your hair and keeping it healthy. Vitamin A is usually found in sweet potatoes, carrots, tuna, lettuce, mango, sweet red peppers, green leafy vegetables and spinach.
  2. Vitamin B: Variants of this, such as B12, aid in hair growth by managing stress. Vitamin B is found in fruits such as oranges and papayas, and beans.
  3. Vitamin C: This vitamin helps you absorb iron from the food you eat which is an absolute essential for hair growth. It also boosts the synthesis of collagen that is required to repair the damage and sustain the structure of your hair. Fruits such as papayas, guavas, lemons, sweet lime, orange, kiwi, vegetables such as broccoli, yellow bell peppers and leafy vegetables are replete with Vitamin C.
  4. Vitamin D: This vitamin rejuvenates the hair cells in order to form new shafts of hair. Vitamin D is found in dairy products, mushrooms, soy milk, tofu, and cheese. Vitamin D is also naturally made by your body when you expose your skin to the sun, and is called the sun-shine vitamin.
  5. Vitamin E: This aids in stimulating capillaries and enhancing blood circulation on the scalp. This additionally contributes to hair growth due to its high anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidant content. Certain foods loaded with Vitamin E are pumpkin, broccoli, olive oil, sunflower seeds, almonds, avocado, tofu and spinach.
  6. Vitamin B5: It is also known as Panthenol, is a vital ingredient that is used in medicines to regulate hair fall. Foods enriched with Vitamin B5 are sweet potatoes, sunflower seeds, avocados, cheese and mushrooms.

Other Ways to Help Hair-
We have gone over the vitamins that may be important for the health of your hair. But lifestyle changes can help just as much. Try:

  1. cutting back on gels, blow-drying, and brushing hair when wet
  2. lowering your stress by exercising at least 30 minutes a day
  3. drinking enough water, 6-8 glasses a day

Being mindful of the foods and drinks you consume, the products you use, and the way you manage stress, can all help improve the well-being of your hair. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

Hair Plugs Vs Hair Transplant

Hair Plugs Vs Hair Transplant

The way you look affects the way you feel. A lack of security about one's appearance can hamper his or her overall confidence. Being overly concerned about one's physical appearance does not always result from vanity. It could be the plain and simple desire of being acceptable to oneself. Hair plays an important role in the process. Premature hair thinning, receding hairline, increased hair fall and other problems related to your scalp are directly proportional to your psychological health. Therefore, a little knowledge about alternative ways to accelerate hair growth can prove to be significant in dire times of need.

What are Hair Plugs?
Hair plugs are no more the best deal for hair regeneration in present times. This practice was mostly prevalent in the 1950s when other effective ways of hair transplant weren't heard of. In this process, strands of hair were removed from the back of your scalp, which had more hair in comparison to the centre of the scalp, only to be implanted in the balding area. Circular slits were made in the balding area to extract tissues and enable successful implantation. Once, hair transplant was conducted, you were left with injuries. These injuries would heal with due time or they would be stitched up by your doctor.

Hair Transplant: an overview
Hair transplant can be understood as an umbrella term for multiple procedures used to enhance hair growth. The most widely applied method is known as Magnified Follicular Unit Micrografting. A surgeon is required to transplant hair from the 'donor site' to the 'recipient site'. Hair follicles can be taken from any part of your body to be implanted onto your scalp. While transplanting, the surgeon carries a graft from one part of the body to another; a graft consists of the hair follicle, bulb and surrounding tissues.

Why are hair transplants preferred to hair plugs?

  1. Hair plugs can make you look artificial. The hair implanted in the balding area resembles doll hair. Transplanted hair can be strictly made from natural hair making you look weird. In certain cases thus, hair plugs can also intensify your problem. On the other hand, hair transplants gift you with natural looking hair.
  2. Hair plugs leave you with bigger and deeper scars. Even after these injuries heal, the donor site remains patchy with white spots on it. This is mainly because hair plugs involve removal of a lot of surrounding tissues. Hair transplants will relieve you from these long lasting and painful wounds.

Those with oily skin are more prone to this problem because it is often a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis.

Dandruff is caused by:

Briefing about Hair Fall
Hello, Friends, I am Dr Sumit Dhawan. I practice homeopathy and today I am here to talk about a problem which is spread worldwide. A large group of population in India as well as worldwide are suffering from this. This is the problem of Hair Fall. We also call it Alopecia or baldness, as you may know. There may be different forms of baldness but today, we are going to talk in general.

This problem can be because of various reasons. People are coming to us and telling us that they are suffering from hair fall but you have to find out what is the basic cause for hair fall. Amongst the causes, it can be because of Environmental causes, for example, humidity. These days it is the rainy season and humidity always causes rainfall. Apart from environmental causes there can be chemical damage. People are using chemical treatments to their hair. They apply re-bonding and they do many chemical treatments which causes hair fall. Additionally, the shampoo and the conditioners that people use can also be damaging if you don t select it according to your hair. So we have to select them carefully making sure they have least chemicals, they have the least medications so that they harm your hair the least. There can be internal disorders also which causes hair fall. For example, metabolic disorders like thyroid causes hair fall. Sometimes internal weakness can also be the cause for hair fall. Internal weakness can come because of various reasons. For example, in pregnancy, after pregnancy and during lactation many mothers feel that their hair is falling. This is a very common cause that females are having more hair fall after their delivery. Even after some high fever or weakening fever like Typhoid, people get hair fall. So in short, we have to find out why this hair fall is happening and give them treatment accordingly. Homeopathy has a good, rather I would say a very good role in treating hair fall because it gives your body enough strength which is required for the follicles to grow and to be strong enough to hold.

Homeopathy helps in naturally curing hair fall which is different from others as it doesn t use any chemicals. It uses your internal body strength to cure your problem. We are going to talk about homoeopathy and how it helps you and also I am going to tell you today what basic tips you have to follow apart from any medications, what you should do at home to get rid of your hair fall. The basic tips which I m going to provide you today for your hair fall have,

First, oil for half an hour before your shampoo, which is a must. You can use hot oils which are very good for your hair. People say oiling is not good but they are necessary also. Hot oils do not directly affect your scalp. When you apply them they get absorbed in your system and they help your hair roots to grow naturally. So they are good for your hair.
Secondly, you should avoid using any strong chemicals on your hair. For example, gels. Boys and girls apply the gel. Avoid using hair dryers for drying because more drying will cause more damage to your hair.
Third, in my opinion, you should avoid using the heavy chemical shampoos which are available in the market including the medicated hair treatments which are available in the market. More chemicals you apply may help you out temporarily but in the long run, they will harm you more. It will further cause more hair fall.
Fourth, I would say you should take a more Iron rich and biotin rich diet which will definitely help you in re-growth of hair as well as maintaining of good hair length and prevent hair fall. Biotin rich food generally includes more of nuts, particularly almonds, which is very good for your scalp and for your skin as well because it also has Vitamin E. In the biotin rich there is also milk, meat, and many things are there which are biotin rich. You can search for them and see which are the biotin rich supplements for you that you like and take them accordingly. You will then like your food also and eventually help your hair grow.
Along with this, I would say to wind up that these are all the basic tips which you have to follow. If later on you need any help or you need to know anything about your hair fall or your infection, that sometime people have in their hair like fungal infection where there re bald spots, can be completely cured with homeopathy.

I will guide you; if you need help you can let me know. We are always there at Dr. Dhawan s Medi Centre at Malviya Nagar or you can also come to us online.

Lybrate is a very good platform to come to us and consult us and I will guide to help you get rid of your hair problems.

Hair Fall
Hello. I am Dr. Harshita Sethi, MD in Ayurveda. I had completed MD from Lucknow and try to practice with my daily life, to my family members in practicing Ayurveda since 2002. So today I am going to talk about a common problem which many girls are facing. Even the men are also facing this problem, i.e, Hair fall. This problem arises with some other problem and this is an additional symptom of having hair fall. Also you see very dull and thin hair. So I asked them what you're eating. Are you absorbing the food properly? Is your digestion is proper because there are so many causes of hairfall nowadays.

You are surrounded with the radiations, you are surrounded with the chemicals, too many pollutants so there can be any cause. It can be watered, it can be chemicals. Whatever you are eating the vegetables they are not very right kind nowadays. So we can blame on anything. But we have to find out the basic cause also. Oh that are we doing our part whatever we are having the food vegetable but I'll be consuming things properly. Are we absorbing them properly and is it assimilating in our body to give the proper minerals and nutrition which is required for the growth of hair and nails. So we have to think inside us, we have to go inside us and find out the cause. I'll be taking proper vegetable juices, proper soups, four fruits in a day. Like we say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. So are we taking a proper five-day food amount in a day to give us a proper nutrition because the deficiency of minerals and sometimes the causes are some autoimmune disorders which is you know not very common cause it is yes thirty percent cause can be due to that it could be thyroid problem.

But the main causes are nutritional deficiency which we can easily cure and we also do some therapies. So whenever the patient comes to me, I tell them the same diet required to be followed. This diet chart, lifestyle part you have to follow. Avoid the causes and follow this diet chart and take this medicine for short time and then we do some therapies also for the quick results in which we do Shirodhara therapy which is an excellent therapy to provide that nutrition to hairs and calm down your nerves and take out the stress because sometimes stress is also the cause.

You are not giving the time properly to yourself, when you're stressed out, not getting proper sleep so for that we do therapy for the quick results and I want to show you the therapy shirodhara how we do it. Let me take you to the therapy room. So this is the shirodhara therapy which I wanted to show you. Here the oil is flowing. This is a bhringraj oil which we use for the treatment of hair falls and it flows for 30 minutes on the aagya chakra and we massage and get some pressure point massage also to the patient to provide the nourishment to the whole scalp. It goes in the roots of the hair follicles and it calm down the nerves. Sometimes the hair fall is due to stress so we relieve the stress and calms down the nerves and person now the patient will have proper sleep and it also stimulates the hair growth and very nourishing to the hair and very calming therapy. This is called shirodhara and after that we do 15 minutes Head massage which goes deep into the root and then we cover the hair with the hot towel in order to penetrate the oil deeply into the scalp.

There is one more therapy in which we apply some here packs and we apply some Ayurveda scrumps and the shirodhara therapy we do it for seven sittings or sometimes we have to do for fifteen sittings also. Depends on the chronicity and the problem of the person and at this therapy as you see it the oil flows on this agya chakra and then it goes deep inside after some sitting than it stimulates the pituitary gland also, stimulates the hormone. What we do what we do we collect the oil and we keep repeating this oil to flow for 30 minutes on the Aagya chakra which goes into the whole head. This therapy is also very good for insomnia where the person have sleeping disorder. They take time for the sleep or big sleep breaks up. The pattern is not very irregular so this is also very good for such cases. For stress and anxiety, this therapy is really good . Applying some pressure on the pressure points which is called Marma point in Ayurveda. So this is shirodhara therapy which I wanted to show that we do it in a very calm surroundings and swing surroundings with mantra chanting and all so the person enjoys it and is very helpful in hair fall.

Thank you so much and if you want to contact me for this therapy or want to conserve me you can contact me on lybrate and I practice in Noida and gurgaon so you can contact me through lybrate.

Causes and Treatments of Hair Fall
Hi, I am Dr Sunakshi. I am a dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon. Today I will be talking on hairfall.

Hairfall as we all know is a natural phenomenon. Up to hundred strands of hairfall in a day is called normal. But more than 100 strands in a day is alarming. We should start looking for the cause of hairfall.
So, first I will discuss the various causes of hairfall. The most common form that we see in our population is pattern baldness. It is present s male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness.

In the male pattern, the hairline recedes and there is thinning of hair over the front and crown area which is progressive. There is grading for this pattern which progresses from grade 1 to grade 7. We decide the treatment according to the severity of the baldness. So, it starts as thinning of the hair root and it progresses to the stage where the hair root is lost.

In female pattern baldness, there is widening of the hair partition area and there is thinning of hair over the crown area. Male pattern baldness is basically because of the male hormone testosterone which acts at the receptors, DHT present on the hair follicle. For this hormones basically, cause hairfall in the front and crown area. The hair on the back and the side area of the head are resistant to the hormone because they do not have DHT receptor. When the baldness is mild and when there is only thinning, it can be corrected with medical treatment which comes in the form of minoxidil lotions, various supplements which come in the combination of various vitamins and minerals available for hair growth.
The other medical treatments are PRP (platelet rich plasma). It is extracted from the blood of the patient and it is injected into the area of thinning. PRP contains various growth factors which are helpful in hair regrowth. The severe stage of baldness when the hair root diminishes is a stage when hair transplant is done. In this hair is taken, the roots are extracted from the donor area as I mentioned in the back and the side area, the follicles are extracted and then they are implanted in the recipient area.

General care should also be done for hair fall. Like frequent wash is important. If there is a problem of dandruff, anti-dandruff shampoos should be started to control hair fall. Diet should be supplemented. It should be rich basic vitamins and minerals which are present in green leafy vegetables. Proteins should be taken I the fo0rm of eggs and fruits.

Treatment of hair fall are medical and surgical. We decide the treatment according to the severity of the baldness. When the stage is mild and there is thinning over the front and crown area, medical treatment is recommended. Supplements are started which comes in the combination of vitamins and minerals which help in hair regrowth. There are lotions available like monoxidal lotions as a combination of nutrient which help in hair regrowth. Supplements are given which comes in oral tablets which are combination of vitamins and minerals which help in hair regrowth. The other medical treatments are PRP (platelet rich plasma). It is extracted from blood of the patient and it is injected into the area of thinning to combat hair thinning and hair regrowth.

The severe stage of baldness when the hair root diminishes is a stage when hair transplant is done. In this hair is taken, the hair follicles are extracted from the donor area as I mentioned in the back and the side area, the follicle are extracted and then they are implanted on the recipient area.

Other treatments available is general care like care of dandruff, anti-dandruff shampoos for twice a week.Frequent washing should be done in monsoon seasons specially. Diet should be supplemented, junk foods and unhealthy foods should be avoided to decrease the oil secretion which can further enhance the dandruff problem.
Now coming to female pattern hairloss, it is mostly nutritional or hormonal. A thorough check-up has to be done for hormonal causes and for nutritional the most common cause is iron deficiency. There are other causes of hairfall, present in different forms. There are auto-immune disorders like alopecia areata which presents as patchy hairloss over the head.
