Glowing Skin: Treatment, Procedure, Cost and Side Effects

What is the treatment?

No matter what your skin type is, healthy skin emanates a natural glow. However, when the skin is not healthy or taken care of well enough, then it can look dull and lifeless. This can affect your natural pallor and even make you look unwell. Fortunately, there are many ways to bring back the natural lustre of your skin, and most of the treatments are fairly easy to employ all by yourself. The treatment or the products you must use will depend largely on your skin type and the reason why it looks so dull.

There are many treatment options available to help you restore your glowing skin. In order to know what kinds of products you should use, you should first assess the problems faced by your skin. If your skin is looking dull due to acne and its scars, you can treat your skin with facewash that is designed specifically for acne prone skin. There are also various ointments and creams that can be used to treat your skin.

If your skin is looking dull because of dryness, you can always get moisturizers and lotions in order to quench your skin’s thirst. Once your skin begins to feel hydrated, it will also look hydrated and begin to glow. Skin oils and masks are also items that can be used to treat your skin and restore its glow.

How is the treatment done?

Once you have figured out why your skin looks dull, you can begin to treat it accordingly. If you are having trouble identifying the cause of the dullness, then you can visit a dermatologist or a skin care clinic to let professionals have a look at it. They can help you understand your skin’s needs so that you can treat it in an effective manner.

Skin oils or face oils are one of the most popular ways today to make your skin glow. Enriched with minerals and vitamins, these oils can be massaged into your skin to restore its health and make it glow. Over time, as your skin soaks in the nutrients, you will need to use it lesser. Face oils can be used as per your convenience, either during the day or night, or when you travel. Moisturizers and lotions that are rich in Vitamin E are also great for your skin as they hydrate it and make it softer. If your skin is dull because it’s dry, then these treatment options will suit you the most.

If your skin is dull due to acne, using anti acne treatments can help you. There are many face washes that are rich in ingredients such as neem and astringents and are great for acne prone skin and oily skin. Face peel masks and mud packs are great for exfoliating your skin and pushing in important nutrients respectively.

Dull skin can also occur due to harmful pollutants in the environment. They attack the skin, making it look unhealthy and parched. Using protective products such as creams rich in SPF can help shield your skin from pollutants. You can also use a cleanser or toner at the end of the day to pull out the dirt and grime from the day.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

If you are concerned about the way your skin looks, you should seek out treatment.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

If you are allergic to certain products or ingredients, then you may not be able to use certain treatments to make your skin glow.

Are there any side effects?

Some products can cause side effects such as a rash, itching, or burning sensation. Performing a patch test is the best way to determine whether or not a product is suiting your skin. It is advisable to take off anything you may have used immediately if it’s causing problems on your skin.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

Making certain lifestyle changes can always go a long way in keeping your skin looking healthy and protecting its natural glow. Stay away from oily foods, and fried foods as they are unhealthy and have a negative impact on your skin. Similarly, sugary foods or processed foods are also not good for your skin. What you eat will always reflect on your face so it is vital to take care.

How long does it take to recover?

It can take up to a month for results of a specific skin care regime to show properly on your skin.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

Skin care products can cost anywhere between Rs. 150 – Rs. 5,000, depending on the brand you choose and the products you need.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

If you continue to follow your skin care regime with vigour, then the results can be permanent.

What are the alternatives to the treatment?

You can also use home remedies to restore the pallor and glow of your skin. Although they take longer to work when compared with cosmetic products from the market, they are equally as effective and in some cases, better for you. Using home remedies is quite easy. For instance, if you have acne prone skin, you can use a face mask made of turmeric and honey. Turmeric has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help get rid of pimples while the honey lightens the scars they leave behind. Similarly, a scrub with oats, yoghurt, and honey also helps for the same problem. Using a cold compress to temporarily relieve yourself of any inflammation caused by a disease or extreme itching can also help. Certain types of essential oils that have anti-inflammatory properties can also be used to massage onto your skin to relieve yourself of the symptoms. Lavender oil, lemon oil, and clove oil are good options to consider.

Safety: High Effectiveness: High Timeliness: Medium Relative Risk: Low Side Effects: Low Time For Recovery: Medium Price Range:

Rs. 150 – Rs. 5,000

Microdermabrasion - Is It Perfectly Safe?

Microdermabrasion - Is It Perfectly Safe?

Dermatologists are a particular breed of practitioners who not only offer technologically advanced solutions for treating skin conditions, but are also authors of creating new techniques that provide a better and unique edge over other methods. They constantly keep upgrading themselves. As a result, a more robust medium for cosmetic procedures is continually evolving. One such treatment that has been developed with genuineness is the dermabrasion or the microdermabrasion procedure. Let us take a look at this innovative method for reducing dull and wrinkled skin.

What is microdermabrasion?

The technique works by a simple process of regeneration of the skin. The process involves the dermatologist "sanding" our skin with a special instrument. The skin, as a result, gets damaged, and the body treats them with new layers of skin. Microdermabrasion is also similar, except that it uses tiny exfoliating crystals that are sprayed on the skin. They are used to take care of skin conditions such as dull skin, brown spots, and age spots. Acne scars and pox marks can also be drastically reduced when using this procedure.

However, this treatment is not very effective in treating congenital skin defects, birthmarks, or scars caused by burns. Dermabrasion is mostly used on people with fairer skins whereas microdermabrasion is suitable for all skin types and colors. It is an incredibly simple treatment and can be done with a single visit to the dermatologist office. The recovery time is minimal. The skin temporarily turns pink and dry after the treatment, but these changes disappear within 24 hours. The procedure is painless and does not require any other by-products like anesthetics before imparting the treatment. The tiny crystals are gently sprayed on the skin to remove the outer layers of the skin tissue. The natural rejuvenation of the skin starts after this, and a fresh batch of layers are formed naturally, leaving behind a skin that is brighter and softer.

After the treatment, as per the advice of the dermatologist, a moisturizer or sunscreen can be applied to reduce the pinkness. Also, a person must minimize his or her exposure to the sun for at least one week for the skin rejuvenation process to kick in. However, after 24 hours, normal day-to-day activities can be performed.

Is the procedure safe?

The biggest advantage of using microdermabrasion is that there are no side effects and it is extremely safe since it uses the body's natural way of healing as a part of its procedure. There can be some irritation to the eyes during the proceedings, if the tiny crystals get into the eyes. However, they can be washed away easily. The technology has been perfected over time and is considered one of the safest cosmetic techniques to achieve a blemish-free and glowing skin. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Glowing Skin In Summers - 5 Ways You Can Keep It Healthy!

Glowing Skin In Summers - 5 Ways You Can Keep It Healthy!

It is summer time and the scorching heat and humidity may make it feel impossible for one to glow but fear not as dermatologists have suggested ways to glow even if one has extra dry skin or oily pores. To begin with, it is very important to know what glowing really means. According to dermatologists, glowing skin is skin that is soft and moist and not dull, dry or flaky. A glowing skin is supposed to have soft pores, a clear skin without blemishes and an even complexion.

Here are 5 easy ways to achieve a glowing skin this summer.

  1. Stay hydrated: It is very important to drink water and stay hydrated. Drinking water has a lot of benefits. It improves the general health of the body and does a lot of good for the skin. It helps one to glow from within. Thus, drinking six to eight glasses of water in a day is a must. The water helps to clear the skin and make it glow by flushing out the toxins. Other than water, drinking fresh fruit juices or herbal tea and non-sugary drinks too help to revive the glow.
  2. Having knowledge about one's skin: It is important for one to know the type of skin one has whether oily, dry or combination. This can be found out by closely looking at the pores. Large pores indicate oily skin which needs a lot of astringents and retinoid to balance the oil production. Oily skin can be caused by hormonal changes which cause excessive sebum and enlarged pores. Dry and flaky skin, on the other hand, occurs due to lack of moisture or excessive use of products that dry the skin. Products which have retinoid or benzoyl peroxide is responsible for dry skin. Also, due to changes in the estrogen levels during menopause or the work environment which may be excessively dry, excessive air conditioning or lack of humidity dries out the skin. In this case, one needs to consult their dermatologist and opt for treatments or creams that can remove the layer of dead cells so that the skin may get the moisture it needs.
  3. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables: To achieve a healthy glowing skin, eating fruits and vegetables is a must. Fruits add moisture to the skin. Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants and important vitamins which prevent the skin from becoming flaky and reduces dullness by removing brown spots.
  4. Use products that contain ceramides: Ceramides are naturally occurring lipids in the lipid barrier of the cell membrane. Ceramides are important components that help to keep the skin hydrated.
  5. Try Tropical Retinoid: Retinoids help to increase the turnover of cells which results in replacing the dead skin cells and allows the young, plum cells to absorb moisture and reduce dark spots.

Other than these methods, it is important to maintain a balanced diet, maintain a good skincare routine and exercise daily. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Perfect Blemish Free Look - Quick Tips For It!

We all love that perfectly glowing skin that has no marks or signs of ageing like moles, tags, fine lines, dark circles and many others. However, for most of us, this remains an imaginary picture that we have in mind. What stares back at us in the mirror has some of the above noted features, in various combinations. However, the desire for that blemish-free skin without any of these continues and is actually not far from reality too.

Some major irritants causing skin scars are as follows:

  1. Vascular marks including thread veins and broken capillaries.
  2. Spider nevus is a spider-web like structure with a central vessel and surrounding capillaries dilated radiating away from it. Similarly, blood spots are red, vascular spots that come with ageing.
  3. Skin tags or milia or warts, these are harmless but esthetically concerning and can irritate if found in an area where it interferes with the garments
  4. Age spots or brown spots that occur due to sun exposure are also harmless but are esthetic concern.

With esthetics attaining such importance, new ways are constantly being identified to help people improve their looks. While there are various creams and lotions and serums with promises of various chemicals that can do wonders, there actually are procedures that have a scientific basis and can produce results more quickly and effectively. The following are some popular advanced cosmetic procedures (ACPs) that can help clear these blemishes and produce a spotless, clear skin.

  1. Chemical peels: This is an exfoliation process done in the clinic, by removing the top layers of rough skin, thereby, making space for new skin to grow. It stimulates growth of collagen and elastin, and promoting new skin growth. It can also be combined with topical antioxidants such as tretinoin and vitamin C, which are proven beneficial for the skin.
  2. Dermabrasion: Used in a variety of conditions (acne, wrinkles, blemishes), it works on layers that are far deeper than a chemical peel. A rotating brush is used to remove the upper layers of the skin, leaving the underlying layers open. The removed layers of the skin may form a scab, and can be mildly painful. The doctor may decide to use a mild local anesthetic if required.
  3. Laser skin resurfacing: The skin has an upper thicker layer and an inner thinner layer. A small amount of laser is applied to the underlying layers to stimulate them to produce collagen. The top layers are kept cool with a gel. The extra collagen produces improves elasticity and produces younger looking skin, removing all blemishes.

All these are equally proven ways to treat blemishes. The decision of choosing one particular method should be completely based on your expectations.

Microdermabrasion - Skin Polishing

MD - Dermatology, MBBS

Microdermabrasion - Skin Polishing

For glowing, bright skin, it is important that it is maintained well. The skin has multiple layers, and over a period of time, due to constant exposure to pollution and dust, the top layers become worn out and lack lustre. Once these top layers are removed, the underlying layers which are fresher can help in giving the skin a much younger and brighter look.

Removal of the dead cells is one of the important aspects of skin care, and microdermabrasion does just that and gives a younger, glowing skin.

Microdermabrasion – What it Does?
There are tiny particles, which are abrasive in nature, which are used on the skin. These by their abrasive and cleansing nature, remove the top layers, making way for fresher skin from the subsequent layers. It is very similar to a facial, except that an instrument is used, which will generate mild heat, which helps in removing the top dead cells.

This procedure, which takes about 45 minutes, creates a gentle vacuum which removes dead cells. In addition,

  1. It improves circulation so that the cheeks turn rosy again
  2. It reduces wrinkles and fine lines that appear as part of ageing. In fact, microdermabrasion is one of the most widely used anti-ageing treatments currently.
  3. It improves dullness, by removing the top dead layers and provides skin with a fresh lease of life (and cells!)
  4. It reduces appearance of age spots which are due to increased pigmentation and makes skin even and less rough
  5. Reduces damage caused by the sun
  6. Scars (from any injury)
  7. Removes blackheads and whiteheads

What to Expect:

  1. It is usually done in the outpatient setting, and no anesthesia is required
  2. Any chemical treatment to the affected area should be stopped 2 days ahead
  3. Discuss with your doctor about your regular medications, which might require change
  4. Continue using the sunscreen
  5. Do not wear makeup on the day of the treatment
  6. There is heat generated during the process, so there could be redness, mild swelling, and tenderness
  7. After the procedure, avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 to 3 days
  8. Do not use any chemicals on the area for at least 3 days
  9. Do not use saunas or steam for about a week
  10. Face should be washed multiple times, either with plain water, or with a gentle face wash
  11. Repeat sessions, if required, will be done after 3 to 4 weeks depending on the condition and your response

Microdermabrasion is one of the most widely used skin polishing techniques and talk to your doctor to find out if it can help bring your skin back to life!
