Hello doctor, I am a 20 year old guy. I had given up on my academics 5 years ago. I didn't study more than 10 th std as I was not interested in studies. I'm home alone for the past five years as I am suffering from severe depression. Now people around me are murmuring as if my life is over because of my giving up on studies. They are bad mouthing me. I was seriously disinterested in studies. I have no special talents. I feel like living in a hell. I have several questions on myself. My doubt is, if studies has gone, is that mean everything has lost in life? I also read about lots of familiar personalities who left studies and went on to become super successful and created history. For that what must be the next step to be taken? I want to become a Rockefeller in my life. Please help me by providing some valuable advice in detail. Please help me. Thank you.

Hi Lybrate user first I let you know that public comments on those who have really potential to do any thing extraordinary. So don't take these comments in negative manner but make it your fuel substance for achieving your goal. Remember public never talk or comment on a ordinary person. They are comfortable with these type of people. Second thing to become successful education is not a key point otherwise highly literate people never become unsuccessful in their life. Education definitely raise your chances to become successful but only your inner qualities and morals and good belief system can leads you a successful life. But occasionally when I deal with frustrated/ depressed person and asked what you want in your life and what is your goal they never answered me. It's not because they don't have any goals and dreams but it is due to their negative thought patterns and belief system which they have created in their minds which not let him to see other side of their positiveness. So first you have to become aware towards your thoughts. You need proper counseling and certain meditation and treatment so that you come to positive state of your mind. So don't worry sedule your consultation with me. I will be happy to assist you. Wishing you a healthier life.

It is okay to be ambitious bt always count your desires with the talents you have. If you yourself claim that you have no special talents then your wanting to be Rockefeller, is rather over ambitious. You will fail to achieve the same and get into more depression. You should do an aptitude test and determine what your natural inclinations and skills are and then get some career guidance and pursue the line suitable for you. The great leaders who achieved their ambitions were relentless and kept going after their dreams even against adverse conditions. You should start gradually and grow incrementally. You are still very young and I feel that if you are not suitable for academics, then you will certainly be fit for something technical. You must attend to your depression because that can drag you down erven with the best of intentions. You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Hi lybrate-user! Actually people close to you like your family and relatives who discourage you always are the well wishers and people who praise you are the one who is least bothered about your life and in no way will come to help you in any critical situation. Well wishers actually worry for you and feel for you, actually you can observe or notice the difference between two. The one good thing you have done is completing 10 th std, there are lots of part time or correspondence courses available, earning a degree may help you in future career wise or for any kind of personal situation, it is actually not that difficult to earn a degree through corress bcoz you will have lot of time to earn as well as study, think you are young too to complete, you have got age also. Do not always degrade yourself, you will be having some inborn talents within you, you need to evaluate yourself, at this age you will feel because your group peers might have completed college or may be in final year, whether others compare you with them or not, you will definitely compare yourself with your peers though you do not admit, you very well know what mistake you have done, but is not ready to accept bcoz people around you are already letting you down, so you do not even dare to try hard and study some course of your interest, try which will be best and which you can complete, of course no one is going to force you, you can decide, there are lots of courses available at colleges, you can actually think and enroll yourself and complete successfully, no matter you fail at one stage or at first attempt itself you may pass, the only problem is you are not trying or do not build up your will power. Take time and think. The next one is your career you can actually try business in small scale, and then develop to large scale. Initially small investment would do better so that you can manage even if loss results. Always be strong, do not worry what others think about you. Whatever you do so strong and try try until you suceed even if failure occurs try try to suceed. Any help call me. Take care. Feel free to contact me either through text chat or call me when you find difficulty to manage then consult me.
