Hi, Raised ESR indicates presence of some infection in the body. It is of no diagnostic importance; but of prognostic importance. Any kind of infection like cough , cold, infected wounds, skin infections, intestinal infections, etc. will all lead to raised ESR levels. So the respective infections needs to be treated with appropriate antibiotics, to bring the ESR under normal levels.
