Hi Diabetes needs to be managed with three important factors: 1. DIET: Eating small meals every 2-3 hours keeps the blood sugar under control and does not allow it to shoot high. Carbohydrates are an important source of energy however avoid simple carbohydrates like pastas, biscuits, bread, cakes, potatoes, sugar, refined flour. Instead opt for complex carbohydrates like whole grains, fibre rich foods, peas, beans. Proteins help in reducing blood sugars hence take them in plenty especially for your breakfast. Eat VEGETABLE salads in plenty. Always eat fruits like apple, mousambi, orange, pomegranate, strawberry, guava, plum as a snack and not with your meals. Drink lots of water to wash away the toxins from your body. 2. EXERCISE: Walking is a basic exercise and has to be done atleast 30 min a day for atleast 5 days a week. 3. MEDICATIONS are important in patients where diet and exercise alone does not reduce blood sugar. There are tablets and insulin which is used in controlling very high blood sugars as short term therapy and in some as long term.
