My heart beats around 80-85 per minute even at resting position and I also feel hardness near my heart and little pain too. Is it sign of any heart disease or it can be due to acidity or gastric problem? I have this problem for 2.5 years. Some time a feel very strong heart beats for just 5-6 seconds.

Hi lybrate-user, Palpitations can have many causes. It is advisable to get an ECG. Premature beats (VPC) can also be cause of your described symptoms. Avoid coffee/tea if ECG is normal you might try lose dose beta blocker (T MetXL 25 mg after breakfast) for a week and see if it benefits you. If it persists would advise Holter test.

Dear Lybrateuser, - The normal heart rate is between 60-100 beats / min, yours is in normal range - your problem could be due to acidity & anxiety - avoid spicy, fried & junk food, also restrict tea, coffee to 1-2 cups per day - chew food well, have 4-5 small meals rather than three large meals, do not skip meals, have meals on time - destress by doing regular exercise, include yoga, meditation & deep breathing for 5-10 min daily morning - sleep well for 7-8 hrs at night.
