Hi lybrate-user, I can understand that you want to help your beloved husband to overcome this negative thinking, I appreciate your care. Do not think about family history now, and do not pinpoint by saying this to your hubby, bcoz this may also one to think that" I also may have got the same problem" like my brother. First always oppose home by talking positive in simple words. Try to divert his thinking to some other topic, task or like hobbies. If this is vry much affecting his normal living them you can take him to Psychiatrist for medication. I would suggest you to ask him to attend yoga classes for positivity, meditate to bring control of mind. Take care any further assistance from my side please feel free to contact me. Let God bless you and your hubby. With regards,

Counsellor cannot suggest medications. I can understand your husband is having mood disorder and also dependent on diazepam, which will worsen mood symptoms, also produce cognitive decline (early onest dementia), and personality changes. You need to consult a psychiatrist and give him appropriate antidepressants at the same time gradually weaning him off diazepam and giving alternate safe medication. All the best.
