I fell from stairs yesterday and have a mild swelling and little bit pain when I move the ankle. I did hot water bag last night and took nucoxia medicine which made me feel it's all well and did exercise in mrng. There is still mild pain, I want to continue gym from tomorrow or asap. Please recommend how to ensure its all fine and start gym asap again.

As long as there is pain and swelling you should not workout, which will delay in joint coming back to normalcy. The upper body work out can be continued if you are so worried of it. Incidentally you should not apply hot water bag on the area immediately after injury and atleast for one day. You should apply cold compress on the area immediately after injucy. These things you discuss with your gym instructor. If the gym instructor says apply hot fomentation immediately after injury, please change the gym for better guidance. Good luck.

Hi. Whenever you have a fall or injury resulting in pain and swelling, first 2 days do cold pack, no hot water bag. When the swelling reduces than you can go for hot bag. Secondly you want to do Gym. If the pain is negligible and there is no stress on ankle than you can start with cycle and crosstrainer for cardio and upper body weight training and seated leg exercises like Leg extension and leg curl. Avoid squats with weight, calf raise etc for 1-2 week. After that you can start with one set of exercise restricted before and gradually move to 2 sets and increment your weight (resistance ) back to your regular intensity.
