I am severely constipated from a month. Yesterday I went to doctor. He checked said you have piles also. Laxative syrup and tablets do not work to stool to come What to do: Help!

Thank you for the query habitual constipation is very difficult to treat. The piles that you have developed is most likely a result of your constipation. Drink plenty of water (at least 2 litres a day) and include adequate dietary fibres. Take fibres like isapghula/naturolax with water. Lactulose based laxatives can be taken up to thrice a day. Get your thyroid profile checked as hypothyroidism can cause constipation. Avoid oral iron tablets. A colonoscopy may be needed if the problem is persistant. Regards.
