Dear lybrate-user, bipolar disorder needs life long treatment. The treatment needs to be changed according to the phase, severity and frequency to the mood changes. Please regularly follow up with your psychiatrist in all its phases including the normal phase. Ketamine therapy will be helpful only for short term during severe suicidal phase of depression. It has to be combined with regular mood stabilizers. Ketamine is not a one time permanent cure for bipolar disorder.

Bipolar disorder often needs long treatment. If you stop medications without being symptom free for minimum 5 years, you will only cause cycle acceleration and increased severity. So please bear with your treatment and consult your psychiatrist for dose modifications or to add new drugs. Ketamine therapy is not a long term answer.

Ketamine helps in depressive disorder or depressive phase of bipolar mood disorder. It doesn't help in mania, hypomania or mixed phase of bipolar disorder. Your condition needs to be assessed first, to come to conclusion if ketamine infusions are going to help you or not! I have experience of administering more than 300 ketamine infusion for my patients suffering from treatment resistant depressive phase of mood disorder conditions.
