Symptoms are not enough to diagnose an infection, unless they are supported by clinical exam. Blood tests etc. If its out of interest you asked the question, I shall not disappoint you. There are variations in the grade of symptoms, and some of them may just be absent also. Like in case of malaria, the fever is irregular without any specific pattern in 1st 7 days. Thereafter the fever comes once in every 48 to 72 hours. It comes with severe shiverings andmay go upto 106 degree. But often even at that high temperature, patient loos normal. His fever will stay for a couple of hours, and then will start coming down to normal with drenching sweat all over the body. It is very often accompanied by throbbing ache in the forehead. Some unusual presentations may be there like a dry cough with mild fever to begin with. You do a blood test for malaria then and it may come positive. Dengue fever is never so high and dramatic, but it may be accompanied -by red eyes, sick-looking patient with severe bone pains (break bone pain) s, the fever remits in 4/5 days, but may recur in a few days or so (saddle back fever). Surprisingly, I have seen dengue cases having no such symptoms, but a blood test detected it. So, the key to diagnose any fever is a constant challenge for every doctor, as fever due to infection do not follow a set pattern, variations are too many, so skillful handling by an experienced gp / medical specialist is the key. Hope this answers your question.
