Regards Lybrate user. Compressive myelopathy refers to pressure on the spinal cord leading to secondary effects of weakness and/or numbness. Compression is likely in neck and back with potential weakening of upper and lower extremities respectively. As the weakness persists with reduced sensation from the limbs, co-ordinated effort of muscles and balance becomes difficult. So increased risk for falling may occur. One is recommended to consult a neurophysician or neurosurgeon to discuss potential options (depends on severity of the condition) and upon referral may follow up with physiotherapy for strengthening and balance training.
