Hello doctor pls can you suggest best treatment of knee arthritis other than surgery for my mother she is 60 years old and she is suffering from last 10 yrs. She take only supplements and pain killers but for last 6 months it is also ineffective and her walking and movement is decreased gradually kindly suggest best possible treatment to avoid this unbearable pain.

Try using a cane to help you walk can take some of the weight off a painful hip or knee. It might even slow the damage from knee osteoarthritis.

If no swelling then do hot water fomentation twice daily. Google these exercises- 1. Knee isometrics/ static quadriceps, 2. Straight leg raise, 3. Vmo strengthening, 4. Dynamic quadriceps- sitting on a chair straighten the knee and hold for 5 counts. Do all the exs 10 times and twice a day. Avoid sitting cross legged esp down on the floor. Use western toilets. If this does not help then please get the knees examined by a physiotherapist.
