Dear lybrate-user, both escitalopram and paxil cr are ssri group of drugs. Both are effective. Each doctor will have their own experience with ssris. The effective dose and the affordability matters in the long run. Of course side effects also makes the doctor think of another ssri. Always it is better to go for a second opinion only when you have tried the treatment fully and it is ineffective.
