Diagnosed with hypothyroidism post delivery by 2014 an had thyronorm 125 mcg reduced to 100 and by 2017 got reduced to 50 mcg. Being non health conscious I stopped taking tablets from 2018. But simultaneously there was an increase in platelet count from 2018 starting from 475000 in 2018 to 516000 now in 2021 march. And now experiencing symptoms like skin rashes, tingling in hand and foot, numbness in my upper back near shoulder, mild swelling in ankle, burning sensation in foot[for the past 1 week], shortness in breath, blurred vision these days. Has it developed because of hypothyroidism or some other problem? Im now 90 kgs. Kindly clarify doctor.

Hello, thanks for the query. Madam, I fail to understand why some would stop taking levothyroxine, when it is known that hypothyroidism needs to be treated for lifetime. Increase in platelets may be a different issue, which you may consult a heamatologist and seek the remedy. But you need to restart levothyroxine immediately. The dosage needs to be calculated based on your body weight, height, tsh and t4 values. So please check thyroid functions and either consult a specialist at chennai or post all the details through the private conversation here so that I can give specific advise and dosage of levothyroxine. Another important aspect with a bmi (body mass index) of 30.20 kgs/sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/sq meter) you are already in grade 1 obesity. Hence most of the symptoms could be related to that issue. Your ideal body weight should be 68 to 69 kgs, which means there is an excess of 21 to 22 kgs. I hope you realise the situation. You may come back here or consult some one in your own place.
