Dear doctor my father is complaining swallowing problem while taking food and little pain also. Every time he is taking water while taking food. And has high blood pressure also about 180/100 even after taking the following medication telma 40, twice a day dilnip 5 mg, once a day, moxovas 0.3 mg thrice a day, and natraise, rosuvas cv, silodal, neopride total 40 mg, what might be the reason of swallowing problem. Can you please suggest the further action needed to solve this issue

There may be problem in oesophagus (food pipe). It's better to get him checked by surgeon to find out the cause for his problem. It's advisable to restrict salt intake and consumption of foods rich in oil and fats for bringing blood pressure to normal range. Keeping him free from worry or anxiety will also help him.

Hi lybrate-user, would like to know age of your father and since how long he has been having these painful and difficult swallowing problem; it’s of definite concern and needs further evaluation, also his bp is not well controlled and is exceptionally highly despite multiple medicines, he would definitely need modifications in his treatment. But before I suggest him any modifications, need to know in detail about his investigation and other past relevant history. Based on your past history and investigation, I shall be in better position in helping you further medical modification and necessary investigation needed do let me know his previous investigation namely renal function test/ sugar profile/thyroid profile that will help me in take appropriate decision for your father.

Hi, welcome to Lybrate! first of all of the diagnosis is correct and precise then the treatment will be definitely effective. Get barium swallow study and fiber-optic endoscopic examination of swallowing should be done. Probably he is having silent aspiration which we are ignoring. Don't take any chance ,get clearance from these tests ,if all test reports shows normal ,then probably strengthening exercises can be started.
