Temperature of 99.5 degrees does not fall under the definition of fever. Fever is defined when axillary (armpit) temperature is more then 100.4 degree f. Usual cause of increased body temperature in an infant is dehydration. I would suggest you to regularly breastfeed the baby and make sure she urinates at least 6 times per day and sleeps 2-3 hours comfortably after feeding. If there are danger signs (increasing temperature, refusal of feeds, severe vomiting, incessant cry, seizures, drowsiness, abdominal distension, breathlessness, increased breathing rate), visit the nearby hospital immediately.
