Chikungunya is a viral infection that spreads through mosquito bites. The most common symptoms are fever and joint pain. Other symptoms may also include headache, muscle pain and swelling joints. There are no vaccines for chikungunya but mosquito bites can be prevented by wearing long sleeved shirts, long pants and hats. Acetaminophen and ibuprofen are some medications that can help treat this condition.

Chikungunya is transmitted via a particular species of mosquitoes - Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.
