Hi lybrate-user. U are right. Common cold is caused by virus which is self limiting. But many times after virus infections, secondary bacterial infections occur after 2 --3 days. In order to prevent bacterial infections drs prescribe antibiotics. You can wait for 2 -- 3 days before starting antibiotics. Take just anticold medicines.
