Sir, amoxicillin is a antibiotic so why we should take it in common cold (which is caused by viruses). If not, please tell me the alternative for it.

Hi lybrate-user. U are right. Common cold is caused by virus which is self limiting. But many times after virus infections, secondary bacterial infections occur after 2 --3 days. In order to prevent bacterial infections drs prescribe antibiotics. You can wait for 2 -- 3 days before starting antibiotics. Take just anticold medicines. If your symptoms of body ache, fever, cough increases then you may need antibiotics. Hope your doubt may b cleared. Feel free to consult me online.
