The rubber thing which you are saying rubber dam... to avoid contamination with saliva and to have proper isolation your dentist will put you on a rubber Dam..There is nothing to be worried with that and if you are feeling uncomfortable with that, you can request your dentist to take that off, so that he or she may look for alternative methods of isolation.. Regarding your hypertension and panic attacks ,there is nothing to be worried as the root canal treatment is a relatively non invasive procedure that is , its not even a minor surgical procedure and basically involves cleaning your infected part of the tooth ..As we all know the tooth is covered by outermost enamel, the next Layer to that is the dentin.. the innermost compartment of the tooth is where the nerves and blood vessels reside.. It is through these nerves and blood vessels you are able to feel the sensations whether painful or temperature sensations as like eating or drinking hot and cold beverages.. When the decay or the cavity that is present in your tooth reaches this innermost compartment ,usually root canal treatment is advised.. This is basically cleaning out the innermost and infected compartment and filling with a suitable material.. It is relatively a common procedure nowadays and giving anaesthesia or the numbing solution makes you completely pain-free ..your dentist will evaluate your BP levels and take necessary precautions and proceed with the treatment accordingly ..so there is nothing to be worried about the procedure as such.. Most important of all is that you trust your dentist and have a positive approach towards the procedure and keep yourself in a calm state which ultimately determines the successfull outcome of the treatment..
