Lots of reasons, first and foremost root canal is a microscopic procedure, which most of us cant afford, secondly it has to be done under good isolation, 3rd skill of the dentist in locating accessory canals.so on and so forth.on an average rct tooth should last you an average of 5 yrs.if the dentist equips with all the proper gadgets it wont be affordable to common public.Â

Hi, The main reason why failure happens in not from an inadequately filled root canal, but is from the tooth breaking from not having a recommended crown placed on it following treatment.. Root canals are an alternative to having a tooth extracted. They are generally about 90% successful. Sometimes the tooth does not heal after a root canal and surgery at the end of the root may be necessary or an extraction. Regards Dr.ShaÂ

Yes true, success rate of root canal treatment is not 100%.. and to be vry honest its less than 30-40% in chairitable trust treatments. the main reason behind failure is proper instruemnts and isolation and the patience which majority of doctors lack. its not 100% success all the time, but if you choose your dentist who gives enough time for your rct,has proper instruemnts like apex locators, endo motors and spends a lot of time in irrigation with special disinfectants.. and makes sure he maintains proper isolation and sterlization.. takes x rays to confirm his working lenghts and confirms his work by the same.. the chances of failure will be realtively less.. dr.harshil shah 9819947716Â

Root canal treatment has a prognosis rate of 90 percent. That means out of hundred root canal done 90 will remain successful for life long. In rest ten percent cases it doesn't. Failure could happen anywhere within a year to 15 years down the line.Reasons for failure are varies from misdiagnosis (dental professional) to inadequate care (patient). Failure shouldn't be a demotivating factor, because even failure cases can be retreated. I would suggest to get yourself treated by a good Endodontist and maintain good oral hygiene to ensure longevity of the root canal treated tooth.Â

It's could be due to multiple reasons 1.wrong case selection by dentist 2.Tooth not restored properly(post &core) and effectively with good restoration materials 3.crown given after root canal is ill fitting so food lodgement over period of time makes tooth decay .. 4.Root canal is not done properly and infectious root canal tissues are left over..Â

The sucess rate of properly done root canals is only 80. There can be many reasons for the failiures 1. There are fixed number of main canals in the tooth. like one canal in front teeth and 2-4 canals in back teeth( general scenario) BUT there are number of deviations seen in all the teeth there can be 2, 3, 4, 5 or as many as 6 canals seen in one teeth in which sometimes treating dentist misses. Here, experties of the dentist cant be questioned as these canals are microscopic which cant be seen through eyes or in x ray 2. If the canals are treated properly, then there are chances of N number of accessory canals in teeth which generally remain unattended bcuz of lack of access. 3. percolation of bacterias which approach to surrounding tissues through canals during the procedure.Â
