Are rectal mucosal prolapse and pelvic organ prolapse same? Because I had done my third grade piles surgery last month. Now there is pain, itching in anus and the hole anal has also been less. Because of small skin growth that came from inside anus. Folded type. It is out of anus. Very small 0.5 cm rectal polyp like shape. I went to another surgeon he told me the anal area has been small due to fibrosis and rectal mucosa has been loosened that is coming out. We need to fix them to sacrum. So you will need surgery for that. I went to my surgeon from where I operated for piles earlier told me it is swelling. He gave me medicines for constipation and told to visit after one month. I need to strain little during defecation. I just want to know that are rectal mucosal prolapse and pelvic organ prolapse same if then I could argue with my surgeon because he also do operation for pelvic organ prolapse as mentioned in hospital website.

Both are different because rectal mucosa is a single organ involvement and pelvic organ prolapse is the involvement of multiple tissues in and around the rectum
