My dentist said to take diclomol pain killer one hour before initiation of dental flap surgery. I read a pain killer could induce heavy blood flow if taken before surgery. I am seeking for a second opinion regarding this. Is it fine to take diclomol pain killer 1 hour before surgery? Thanks doc.

Don't worry, pain killer are primarily used only for relieving pain. Yes they can cause increased bleeding but not in just single dose. There are multiple side effects of pain killers but they are primarily related to prolonged use. Asking patient to take a pain killer before any surgery is usually a routine procedure or you may call it a protocol. It helps reduce pain during the procedure, alleviate anxiety and relax patient. One more suggestion, it's nothing wrong in taking second opinion but it is also important to trust your doctor and discuss with him/her your fears and questions instead of doubting his/her decisions. I am sure your doctor will be very happy to answer all your questions. All the best for your surgery, wish you a speedy recovery:)
